I need to remove the two-part agitator in my Hotpoinmt VBSR3100GWW washer

It's a two piece agotator. When I took the cap off the top piece, there is yet another cap under it that I cannot get out - it's down inside the top piece of the agitator and has nothing to grab onto. There are a pair of slits in the agitator top piece that are even with this second cap, and I have tried using a screwdriver to pry the cap off, but there does not seem to be any seam there to get the screwdrive head into. What can I do? My wife lost her wedding ring and believes it is under the agitator.

The agitator is a two piece - the top part is an auger-like attachment that turns independently and sits on top of the standard agitator spindle (the intersection of these two parts is where strings from sweatshirts, straps, etc. become frustratingly tangled, a complaint you may have hear before). If I could remove this top piece somehow I may be able to then remove the agitator. Come on experts - surely someone out there knows what i am referring to here?

SOURCE: how do I remove the agitator?

Technically, the agitator should just pull straight up and off. Realistically, that just might not be that easy. There is an agitator puller. If you take the small plastic cap off the top of the agitator (if it is still there) you then slip a metal ring over the top of the agitator and tighten down three set screws into the plastic on the side of the agitator, near the top. (biteing into the plastic, but not enough to crack the agitator) Then, a pull collar is hooked over the edges of the pull collar and the center of the puller goes right down the center of the agitator (right on the center of the transmission shaft) Perhaps you could fashion your own pull collar. Your machine is well over the average life of a washer, so I wouldn't worry too much about damage to it. It may be time to invest in a new machine soon. Please don't bother rating, as anything but a Fix-Ya drops my score. Good luck with your repair.

Take a water hose and blow it out.
G.e. Agitators normally need a special puller to remove tub

SOURCE: Hotpoint VBSR3100GWW Top Load Washer.

this machine does not have a clutch but you may want to pop the front off by inserting putty knife to release clips on the top of the front panel , there you can inspect the belt to see if it is worn

SOURCE: We have a hotpoint washer top load, The bolt

You can probably order the replacement parts you need from the following website:

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/hotpoint-washing-machine-parts.aspx

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information and items at the website indicated.

Then just enter the model number of your washing machine and the website will display a list of available parts for that model as well as the prices.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

I need to replace the agitator but can't get the old one off

After removing the dispenser, you should be able to see a bolt. Removing the bolt will allow multiple pieces to be removed. I would suggest going to Whirlpool.com, click on Service & Support, click on Replacement Parts, and enter your specific Model # at top right corner & click Go, select Agitator...this will give you a parts diagram that will allow you to see how all the pieces/parts are assembled. If you get overwhelmed, perhaps call a repair tech.
Hope this helps.

NEED TO REMOVE AN AGITATOR FROM A WASHING MACHINE

  • 1 First you must determine the brand of washing machine you have.

  • 2 To remove agitator on a whirlpool washer, remove top cap from agitator, Next you will find a translucent cap, remove this with your pliers. Then you will see a 3/8 inch nut, Back this nut out and you can then remove the agitator. Be Careful though, inside the agitator where the bolt has been removed is a white piece of plastic that holds the "dog ears". These dog ears are what lets the agitator move in one direction and locks when the transmission moves back in the other direction.

Maytag and Admiral washers are very similar to remove. General Electric, (GE) is different, To remove a GE agitator simply pull upwards very hard, GE agitators snap on. Be careful not to pop it into your mouth, that really hurts.

  • 3 Remove agitator, repair or replace and reset, GE just push on, you will be able to see the groves to line up the agitator to the hub. For whirlpool place bolt into dog ear guide, and set down on top of transmission post and tighten, be careful that dog ears, do not get out of alignment. That's it.

    Buy F150 parts.

    Stopped agitating

Its probably what they call "dog ears". My washer was doing the same i took off the cap on top of the agitator and un screwed the bolt. I grabbed that white piece out and there were four little plastic pieces that looked like dog ears and i replace them for under 1.00 and mine was fine after that.

Need to remove the tub on Kenmore Series 60 Washer to clean it. How do I get the agitator out?

To replace the Agitator & Dogs, follow these steps:

1.Remove the agitator center cap by either pulling straight up or gently placing a flat blade screwdriver into a slot located in the cap.
2.If the agitator is equipped with an inner cap with a handle, remove this as well by pulling straight up.
3.Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16" hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut. If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8" to ½" ratchet adapter to remove.
4.Remove the agitator by grasping the bottom flange and carefully pulling straight up. Try to keep all the parts assembled while doing this, so do not pull too hard. This will make this repair much easier.
5.Place your hand over the top of the agitator and separate the upper portion of the agitator from the lower portion and turn the top half over in your hand. The agitator dog assembly will come out in your hand.
6.With the agitator dog assembly in your hand, lay the rest of the agitator aside. Pay careful attention to how the dogs are installed. Remove the worn dogs and reinstall new ones. It's that simple.
7.With all the dogs replaced and the assembly still in your hand, place the upper part of the agitator over the top of it, upside down, ensuring the inner assembly tabs align correctly.
8.Now keep your hand over the agitator top to hold all the pieces together and turn the entire assembly over (upright position).
9.Carefully align and reinsert the upper portion of the agitator to the lower portion. Again, making sure the two pieces align correctly.
10.Place the entire agitator assembly back on the gearcase shaft and reinstall center nut. NOTE: DO NOT over tighten the nut, or the agitator will not spin correctly. Just make the nut snug. Reinstall center cap and inner cap (if equipped).

These instructions should give you the basics on how to perform this repair. Since there are various agitator types in use by Whirlpool and Kenmore, assembly can vary.

    Thanks for using FixYa!!

The top part (not the fabric softener cup) of my Roper top loading washing machine came out when I took a blanket out of the machine. I tried reassembling the agitator, but, it doesn't fit correctly. ...

If this is the split agitator (two piece), the top part should not come off without tools. The part of the agitator that receives the fabric softener dispenser has a clear plastic cap that comes off to reveal a bolt. If this is the piece that you have described, something broke.

    goggomobil.jpg
The bolt in the picture must be removed to release the upper agitator from the machine.

Is this the part that came off? If so, the bolt came off or the upper agitator is broken.

Bottom agitating, but top freely spins

You need to get an agitator repair kit. Remove the cap on the agitator. Some have a second inside plastic cover/cap. You will need a long extension and rachet and 1/2" socket to remove the hold down bolt. Remove and replace the parts with the kit parts. Replace the cover. 10 minute repair... online kit is about $13.00.

    Need to remove Agitator

On a MAV6000, you should be able to pop off the fabric softner cap, remove the fabric softner cup underneath, and finally remove the bolt underneath to lift up the agitator. (rocking the cap back and forth is usually the best method)
