I installed Norton Ghost 14 from downloaded file and during the completion of the install step I received an error stating that the program needs to be reinstalled. "go to add/remove programs and remove ghost then start the install process over" there was no list of ghost in the add/remove listing so i removed mannually. Upon the attempt to reinstall I receive the error message "a more recent version of Ghost is on this machine - remove this version before attempting to install. Upon running a search I find no files with "Norton", "Symantec", or "Ghost" showing up.
Hi,
Sometimes when you install a software on system and suddenly uninstall it, then some registry files get remain in system memory. Next time when you install the same software, computer shows eror. same happened with your Norton Ghost 14. So firstly remove its registry files from regidt and install the same program.
I have the same problem with you. Lukily enough I found the solution from this website.

However, I didn't uninstall the NOD32 in my PC prior to double click the Norton Removal Tool.
It seems to work fine anyway. As soon as the NRT finishes its task which takes only a few minutes,
I reintall the Norton Ghost 14 and it works without any problem.
Good luck.

You need to remove Norton with Nortons own removal tools. Add/remove program not the same thing as it leaves stuff in the registry. Go to norton.com and get removal tool..Run it, then try the re-install.

I believe that a reference of Ghost exists in the registry only and not in C:\. Since it has become such a pain to install i think it best to not try further since my system is stable now. There's a history of Norton not working will with Windows.
