Trying to reinstall norton ghost v14

I installed Norton Ghost 14 from downloaded file and during the completion of the install step I received an error stating that the program needs to be reinstalled. "go to add/remove programs and remove ghost then start the install process over" there was no list of ghost in the add/remove listing so i removed mannually. Upon the attempt to reinstall I receive the error message "a more recent version of Ghost is on this machine - remove this version before attempting to install. Upon running a search I find no files with "Norton", "Symantec", or "Ghost" showing up.

I believe that a reference of Ghost exists in the registry only and not in C:\. Since it has become such a pain to install i think it best to not try further since my system is stable now. There's a history of Norton not working will with Windows.

Hi,
Sometimes when you install a software on system and suddenly uninstall it, then some registry files get remain in system memory. Next time when you install the same software, computer shows eror. same happened with your Norton Ghost 14. So firstly remove its registry files from regidt and install the same program.

I have the same problem with you. Lukily enough I found the solution from this website.

http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic107021.html

However, I didn't uninstall the NOD32 in my PC prior to double click the Norton Removal Tool.
It seems to work fine anyway. As soon as the NRT finishes its task which takes only a few minutes,
I reintall the Norton Ghost 14 and it works without any problem.

Good luck.

You need to remove Norton with Nortons own removal tools. Add/remove program not the same thing as it leaves stuff in the registry. Go to norton.com and get removal tool..Run it, then try the re-install.

Intend to down load symantec anti virus security to my PC having internet connection. Where to get FREE and what software is suitable / recommended Thanks

If you sign up with BT Total Broadband then you will get this free as long as you have this ISP otherwise you will need to but a serial for the retail version, here is a script that will download the latest defintions file and create a new ISO and burn it this can only be installed with a valid serial number which you will hav e to buy.

If you have Norton Ghost v12 or v14 I have created a script that will download the latest DAT files and create a CD for use with Ghost for pre-boot virus scans.

Error Copying old c: drive w/Ghost 9

Do a disk defrag on the source drive. If that doesn't work, you may have a virus on your source drive and norton ghost is catching before getting on your destination drive.

Lost my installation disc. how can i install on my new pc?

The only way you can do this is to use a software like Norton Ghost and transfer all your files to your new computer. I can help you with this but I need more details. Do you have a usb transfer cable, with this you can transfer straight to your new computer. What I recommend is to place your new drive into slave mode when you transfer than make it your master when your done with the transfer.

Reformatted computer, found files with GHS & GHO,how to recover?

Hi 'jen2x':

I’m Melinda and I represent Symantec’s PR Department.

Norton Ghost has the following key features:

  • Full system backup (disk image)—Backs up everything on a hard drive or partition.
  • File and folder backup—Backs up only the specific files and folders you choose rather than saving an entire drive.
  • FTP backup—Copies recovery points to a FTP site for easier offsite backup management. NEW
  • Offsite backup—backs up your files to NAS (Network-Attached Storage) devices. NEW
  • Symantec ThreatCon integration—triggers incremental backups whenever ThreatCon reaches a specified threat level. Great for computers without virus protection. NEW
  • Incremental and differential backup—Backs up only files that have changed.
  • EXCLUSIVE! Google Desktop™ integration—Makes data recovery even faster with searchable backup indexes.
  • LightsOut Restore—Restores your system with an on-disk software recovery environment—no bootable CD required.
  • EXCLUSIVE! Remote management—Controls other Norton Ghost installations (12.0 or higher) on your local area network.
  • Advanced compression and encryption—Minimizes storage space and helps keep sensitive documents safe.

Need software

gho is the extension of backup file format saved by Norton Ghost, that is Norton backup program.
GHO file extension can only be opened with Norton Ghost, and restored on an hard drive, after extraction you can save data on optical support using any CD burner software.

You can download Norton Ghost below:

Removing norton ghost before reinstalling

If you tried removing Ghost yourself by deleting foulder or files then it will not appear in the add/remove list. Try reinstalling it and then using removal tool. Make sure you have correct one for version and your OS. My advice is stay away from Norton products, they severely slow down performance and hinder daily activities. There are free tools online that work much better.
