Sony KV36H5500 WEGA TV (flat screen tube) will not turn on

36 inch flat screen picture tube Sony WEGA TV. Stand by lights flash - but TV will not turn on. Occasionally, if you wait 3-5 days, set will turn on. Then we can use it till someone forgets or we have a power outage, then the problem starts all over again. Currently, have gone a week without power - and it still wont turn on (except for standby lights).
Have tried both remote and main power button. Same negative result.
Outlet checks out.

Thank you. Am not home right now, so will be a few days till I can try this out.

Hi. Set is at my parents house. I will try your solution in a few days. Found out what you likely already know, that TV has diagnostic built in - six flashes from standby light then repeats. Assuming on-line source is correct - six is for - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515&516 and the jungle IC, IC206. Does this help - or still need to wait till I try your test first. Thanks.

Oops - had parents recheck (six didnt sound right) - they verified count three times and found that the blinking pattern repeats at seven not six - sorry for the earlier email. Seven, if you believe the web stands for

High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

My sony wega screen went pink & blue then black now the stand by light keeps 5 times and tv will not turn on

This is usually indicative of a power supply or power board failure inside the unit. Unfortunately there is no easy fix and you will need repairs. Please contact Sony to see how you can go about getting a repair scheduled, or check with a local TV repair shop in your area. Sony's number for this department is: 239-768-7547

My sony trinitron turns off by itself and then the stand by light blinks five times then pauses for like 4 seconds then flashes 5 times and repeats

Hi,
This is picture tube related problem and we call it incorrect white balance.
Adjust Screen Volts of picture tube and control knob wold be located on flyback transformer. If you have knowledge about tv and know that tv contains high voltage and you can take care of that then do it yourself or ask local tv repairman to fix it.
Thanks.

Sony Wega 32 inch tube TV buzzes when turned on and then shuts itself off. If you turn it on several times the picture will stal on

look likes E H T problem. Watch the rear of the TV. If you find blue arc anywhere, you have to check that component. Take care while handling the E H T side near the picture tube.

Even if the TV is disconnected there me dangerous voltage present in the E H T connecting point of the picture tube body. Take service center help.

Sony trinitron wega kv-36fs200 36' tv is missing green color

sounds like a major fault with the line output transformer/power board. if no green on screen, tube is on it's last legs. Advise to scrap, not to repair, cost in excess of £200

I have a 2001 sony wega 36 inches and the channels

If you are comfortable with working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages present, you can probably fix this easily. Open up the back and remove it. Plug the set back in and turn it on. In the lower right hand side will be the flyback transformer (large red wire coming out of the top and going to the side of the picture tube). DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! On the back of the flyback should be 2 "knobs". One will be marked screen and the other focus. Carefully adjust the focus until the picture is clear. When you do this, go beyond the clear point and work the control back and forth a few times before settling in to the focused spot.

That should resolve the problem.

Color variation and blinking red light on bottom of tv

The light flashing 5 times is normal at turn on as the set is monitoring current drain on the pictures tube cathodes. Any speakers near the set that have un-shielded magnets could possibly cause color issues.
