Determining if computer has a built-in microphone

How do I determine if I have a built-in microphone on my Toshiba Satellite computer? I can hear sound through speakers but can't speak back (e.g., to use Skype or Yahoo Messenger). Please tell me where to look for the specs on my computer for the microphone. Thank you! (PS This question has been posted before but no satisfactory answers).

when I right click on the volume icon I see: Sound: Recording: Microphone: Realtek High Definition Audio: Not plugged in. Does this mean that I need to plug in an external microphone or do I need to "turn on" an internal microphone? I really appreciate your help.

  • ecg5 Dec 29, 2008

I believe you mean the 2 buttons for "exclusive mode" under the advanced tab. These are checked and I still get the "not plugged in" message.

  • ecg5 Dec 29, 2008

It does say microphone but I'm pretty sure I will need to get an external microphone. I checked the specs online for my computer (A215 S7437 Model: PSAFGU-00L002) and it says Ports: Audio: Microphone input port, Headphone output port. I really appreciate your help. Thank you!

What operating system are you using?

Ok, the easiest way is to right click on the little volume icon in bottom right taskbar next to the time. Then click on recording devices. If it says microphone there then you have one. Depending on what else it says we may have to do other things.

  • Anonymous Dec 29, 2008

Doble click on realtek and then on advanced. Make sure those 2 boxes are checked.

  • Anonymous Dec 29, 2008

When you first right click volume and relect recording device. Is the realtek microphone set as default? to be sure just click once on it and if you can click on default button at bottom do so and then click ok, close window and restart.

Yes all laptops have external ports for plugging in microphones. But they also have an internal one. For example a headset and mic combo. Best of luck

What do you do if the built in microphone for the Toshiba Satellite M305D-S4840 is not working (not picking up sound)?

SKYPE MICROPHONE PROBLEM
If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

Hi, My laptop is: TOSHIBA SATELLITE A205-S5851 When using the Skype, I can hear perfectly but no one can hear me, I am not using an external microphone, can someone help?

This model Toshiba does not have a built-in microphone.
For people to hear you, you need a mocrophone.
You need to attach an external microphone to the Toshiba and configure Skype to use the external microphone.

Do toshiba satellites c655 have a built in mic?

The Toshiba Satellite C655 does not have a built in microphone, but it does have a mono microphone jack.
The following website has microphones that are compatible with the microphone jack. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007675%20600011221&IsNodeId=1&name=3.5mm
You may verify at Toshiba's C655 website. It says "No Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel". http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/C650/C655-S5049
Compared with the L670. It says "Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel". http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite-pro/L670/L670-EZ1710
I hope this answers your question.
Sincerely, Nathan Hicks

Do my laptop have a mic toshiba satellite c655

There are different models of Toshiba Satellite C655 (about 9 models) and some have webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel (like Satellite C655-S5052 or Satellite C655-S5113) and some don't (like Satellite C655-S5068 and Satellite C655-S5049).

you need to get mic and headphones or a headset to say chat with sound through your mic using msn messenger or skype.

Built in microphone wont work

try re-installing the driver.

it's a bit complicated, but if you could figure out what kind of microphone you have i could get it for you.

right now try googling your computer make and model, plus "microphone driver"
it should come up with a link to download something, then install that if it looks trustworthy enough.

Does the Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000 have a

Hi,

The Toshiba Satellite pro 6000 doesn't have a built in microphone as far as I can remember but it does have a microphone socket at the front next to the headphone socket. Both sockets are on the bottom left hand side left if looking from the front. The microphone one is the one on the left, if you look closely there are symbols next to each of the sockets, one looks like headphones the other like a microphone.

Hope that helps
