Hi everyone, I've got a pair of Mackie MR8 MK1 Active Monitors, one seems to work fine though the other has stopped working! The faulty one make a low buzzing noise, with no audio sound out put. Please can anyone advise me on what it could be or how to repair it? I have been told it could be bad capacitors? I would be grateful if some one can give me some advice? Regards,

Try cleaning al of the sliders using an electronics cleaning spray. Choose one that contains a lubricant as well. Dirty sliders can cause this especially at low volume levels. If that does not cure the problem, there may be a defective IC inside the unit. Many mixers use opamp ICs as buffers and final stage amplifiers. These are inexpensive and can fail in that manner. Without knowing the specific make and model ogf your unit, I can't give you any details. Please post the make and model and I'll try to provide additional possibilities.

Hi there. Disconnect all auxiliary inputs. Still buzzing? Internal problem. Not buzzing? External problem.
Thanks

Sounds like a ground loop. MAKE SURE ALL of your equipment is fed from the SAME receptacle. Make sure the ground pin on the power cable is good (try another cord or swap). Swap the audio cable to verify the cable has a good ground.

I built a web page on how to replace the tweeter on the MR8. Lots of good photos to help you with this problem. You can find it at: http://www.idahomojo.com/IdahoMojo/Mackie_MR8_Tweeter_Replacement.html Hope it works out for you!

Yes, there are chips in the unit and any COMPETENT tech should be able to repair.
Since both the XLR and the jack are bad, this implies something more.
USUALLY Mackie drives the XLR and the unbalanced jack seperately so the problem would be what drives the unbalanced jack.
CHECK if you have output at the UTILITY left output jack. If you do, the driver chip for the left output main is the problem.
If you don't, the problem may back up farther into the EQ.
A LOT of troubleshooting can be done on these by using the block diagram in your manual showing signal paths.

Ask for the tweeter for the MR5 & MR8 the part number might be 0030616. The price is about $31/tweeter

Hi everyone, I replaced the main capacitors it seems to be still buzzing, though slightly differently. When I turn the volume up you can hear it buzzing get louder, therefore i think it must be the internal AMP. I have replaced the external power cord and the audio input and it still buzzing! Can anyone give me any ideals on what it could be?
