If you noticed this sound the first time you tried the drill, it is noise of the armature brake. This noise is normal and not a problem at all. Michael Mittelsdorf

IF DRILL STALLS, it is usually because it is being overloaded or improperly used . RELEASE TRIGGER IMMEDIATELY, remove drill bit from work, and determine cause of stalling. DO NOT DEPRESS TRIGGER ON AND OFF IN AN ATTEMPT TO START A STALLED DRILL - THIS CAN DAMAGE THE DRILL.Dec 6, 2022Why is my drill stalling? - DEWALT
This replacement battery was a great find. We searched for batteries for our Dewalt drill and this is the only site(www.drill-battery.co.uk) that had it and at a good price. Works fantastic and is a great deal.
first make sure brushes are not worn out and if not then replace the switch. the brake is contained in it to throw a short thru the motor when trigger released to stop drill. You can find a breakdown for this tool at Dewaltservicenet.com
Sounds like your brushes are either damaged or the armature is failing the current. Remove the brushes first and inspect them, that is where your arcing is coming from. If the brushes appear ok, your problem is in the armature itself. Regardless of low use, if you store the unit with the battery attached, there are issues with the current draw while stored.
yes this is normal the spark keeps motor from stalling out by taking away the friction spark by making own spark the clunk is the drill brake so you dont brake your hand when screw goes in all the way unlike old drills that kept going even when your hand was attached to it
