I have a model 1866 White sewing machine and I've been searching for a replacement part for the needle clamp screw and I've even checked sew4less.com but have been unavaliable to find the right part. Is their a different white model that's needle clamp screw will fit my machine or is there a place I can find that will have the part I need?

My own mother, and grandmother who have sown ALL their lives, who make clothes, etc. etc. CANNOT figure out for the life of us all, how to get that thing to load the thread., We get it through the needle, and underneath, And it looks normal, Its what you would do on a normal machine. But when you start, Is when it messes up. I think, they put up for sale because of this error

My thread keeps breaking at the end of my sewing session. not sure why, I've been sewing blocks for a quilt and I've tried to change the thread

Upper thread breaks
1.needle may be in backwards
Correct needle insertion
Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine or if using a round needle--the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft.
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw
2.upper tension may be to tight--try 3 to 5
3.the needle may be bent or damaged--try rolling the needle on a flat surface to see if it's bent or not
4.thread may be hanging up in bobbin case--check area for loose threads or lint
???
Lower thread breaks
The most probable cause of lower thread breaking is improperly wound bobbin
1.always start with a empty bobbin
Never wind one color over the other
2.choose thread that is identical in color & type as the one to be used for upper threading
3.wind the bobbin evenly across & in layers
4.don't wind the bobbin so full that it would be tight & hard to insert into bobbin case
5.bent bobbin--replace
6.lint built up in the bobbin case--frequent cleanings will eliminate this problem, the more often you use the sewing machine the more often it needs to be cleaned
7.thread catching on the bobbin spring or latch on bobbin case, check to see that the bobbin is inserted completely & correctly, & that you are using the right kind of bobbin .

Skipped stitches. Also, won't transition

have you checked the needle to make sure it's in correctly--flat side of needle goes to the back of the machine

correct needle insertion is mandatory for the proper use in your sewing machine. Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back (or if using a round needle the groove in the needle should be facing away from the shaft.
push the needle all the way up to the stop, or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw.

how to decide which needle is correct to sew with, it depends on the fabric & thread being used for the project.
like for example, I've been sewing for over 30 years, I'm sewing a stretchy fabric & regular needles won't work because they skip stitches & will pull the fabric thus damaging the fabric, the needle I have to use is a singer universal ball point needles, & I have no problem with the stitches they come out fine.

PURCHASED USED MACHINE WHITE MODEL 1866 DID NOT HAVE MANUAL IS ONE AVIABLE FOR MACHINE? /

I've searched my usual sources for a free manual and had no luck. I did find a few where you can download one, though, for purchase.

The first is at http://www.sewconsult.com/white/white_instruction_manuals.htm. The cost is $5.95.

There's also a site with some parts at http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/white-1866-sewing-machine-parts.aspx. The manual there is $14.99 and is a hard copy.

I hope this helps-sorry there wasn't a free one available in my searches.
