If your washer doesn't seem to work at all, check these:
No power
Lid switch
No power
Check
to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged
in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?
Lid switch
If
the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not
function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing
near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of
the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace
it. To determine if the lid switch has failed, watch the part testing video at the bottom of this page.
Some
machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the
control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until
you replace the fuse.

funny enough LG water inlet valves are favorite for that problem. if you put the power off and the water still flows into the tub then the valve needs to be serviced. if it goes off when power is switched off but continues to fill after cycle is complete then board needs replacement.

If you know how to open the cover at the back or the bottom then open it, just turn it up side down, now see if you can access the drain pipe junction/connection, see if there a leak or a rubber seal might be broken, thats why water is coming out un extpectedly. try to fix, any sealant will do, let it dry for atleast 24 hour to attain the full strength.

This problem is usually related to lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is mounted under the washer top casing on the right hand side. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If the lid switch is broken, the following link explains the steps necessary to replace it:
