LCD Replacement? I dropped my d40 and there are several hairline scracthes that make viewing pictures very annoying. I searched online and all I found were LCD screen protectors, however no replacements. If anyone knows where I can purchase a screen replacement, that'd be great! thanks!

Cracked screen. I do not believe the lcd is broken, just the screen. I found a nikon screen replacement for $10.00 + shipping on shop.thefotogeeks.com I just placed the order so I don't know if it is the solution or not. Site says the screen is held on by tape, so it might just peel off, again don't know for sure but will find out shortly.

You probably won't find a lcd replacement screen, only Nikon or a camera repair center would be able to get one. If you did find one, you probably wouldn't have the tools to fix it. And if you did have the tools, you won't have the Nikon calibration software to install it. Two options for you, send it to Nikon and spend a fortune fixing it, if you have dropped it, you may have more issues than a cracked screen. I have a friend who fixes cameras.

NIKON D40 I can not see thru my LCD panel

The LCD panel is for menus, shooting settings, and reviewing pictures after they've been taken. The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, providing a viewfinder through which you compose your pictures. The Live View feature which lets you use your SLR as a point&shoot and hold it at the end of wobbly arms was introduced with the D300, released several years after the D40.

The D40 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing the view only through the viewfinder. The LCD is for menus, setup, and reviewing pictures you've already taken. The LiveView capability that allows you to use the LCD for composing your pictures is a relatively new feature. Nikon introduced it into their cameras with the D3 and D300, released well after the D40.

Because it's not supposed to. The LCD on the D40 is for menus, shooting info, and image review. It takes pictures the same way SLRs have done for half a century, allowing you to view and frame through the viewfinder. Only more recent dSLRs (and not all of them) have the Live View feature allowing you to use the LCD instead of the viewfinder.

I don't believe there is. Nikon call it Live View in other models, but its not mentioned in the D40 user manual.....

My fiancee's a650is lcd is cracked and cam wont work

If you do a Google search for 'digital camera parts' the first listing is a website that can help you. The LCD repair package is $72 with return shipping of the camera to you.

just press the down arrow on the navigation button after taking a picture . what happened is the viewing mode was accidentally set to automatically highlight the overexposed areas.

If you were able to use the LCD monitor as a viewfinder on the D40, then there was something wrong with your camera.

The D40 does not have a Live View capability.

I see nothing in the Viewfinder...

The camera has a mirror lock up feature for cleaning the CCD sensor. You may have engaged it. Check your manual about this function
