Usually made from interference of some sort. Make sure that all wire connecting from both the input on the receiver and the output devices are properly secured and have no rips or tears in them. Also make sure there is nothing close the receivers with a powerful magnet (big subwoofers, powerful speakers, computers, etc) those can also cause interference. Hopefully this helps.
SOURCE: Loud hum when Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers are turned on.
I had the same problem for many months. I asked a sound & video professional and he suggested I move the subwoofer away from any power source. I had the subwoofer next to my UPS. Once separated and moved all wiring away from the power supply (about 12") the low bass hum was practically gone.

the drivers might have been corrupted by something or you might have got a virus run your antivrus program and test for a virus then
you might have to uninstall then reinstall either the sound drivers or the sound card make sure you have both of these devices baked up to a disc before uninstalling

SOURCE: My BOSE Companion 2 Series II left speaker lost
I had hooked ny brand new Bose Companion 2 speakers up to my iMac and no sound from lefty. Played with the balance control on the mac but had to put it almost all the way to the left just to hear anything from it. Then, all of a sudden, the left kicked in and I was able to move the balance control mostly to the center and all is well. I was this close to boxing it all back up, convinced that I had a bad unit. Lesson? Be patient and wait - you usually have 30 days to see if it corrects itself, so why not use that time to see if it works itself out.
