I got several flash games shared by other users and they are in swf format. how do i manage to play them?
Adobe Shockwave only plays swf files inside web browsers. So you have to open the file from the browser, not explorer. The .swf game file probably calls external resources not included part of the file, so you would be forced to play them from the original website with the ads and stuff. The web browser needs to be configured to play the swf file type using Shockwave. This could be set to nothing or something else. Also, web browsers today are so paranoid about Adobe that they often disable it by default with every browser update so check your addons, plugins, extensions settings.
There are free video players that will play .swf files, but I don't think you could interact with the content as in a game, just watch the video component. This is because .swf was commonly used as a video format 10+ years ago. It is only this type of .swf file that could be converted to a different format.
You might need to download free SWF player to be able to play the games.
I've found this tool here on fixya following a recommendation and checked it out. It worked well for me.
Good luck!
.swf files are Shock Wave Flash files, which are native to Adobe. Download Adobe Flash Player and you should be able to play them.
