Wont let me take Pics. due to focus error displayed on LCD Screen
About the HS10 autofocus problem, I discovered the cause and solution. It is a problem of camera design, and is caused by three screws securing the CCD sensor. These screws are not properly secured and the vibration eventually dropping.
In two cameras with the same defect, the screws were loose. These screws adjust the sensor position relative to the lens and the sensor is loose when out of position not allowing proper focus.
The solution is to disassemble the camera and secure the screws.
These screws can not be too tight they need to be adjusted to position the CCD sensor correctly. The camera is difficult to dismantle because several wires are soldered.
Care must be taken to discharge the capacitor of the flash, this may cause an electric shock and burn the camera board.
Those who want to try the repair, follow the link to the service manual.

Hi nicoleashley You can send your camera to FUJI and pay $120 or you can try this at home for zip...it worked for me! I to have had focus error problem with my Fuji A310 camera and after much frustration and phone calls i decided to try a different approach to this problem........ I FORMATTED my 64mb XD card in my computer memory card reader using the FAT setting and guess what my camera is magically working now..... Why couldn't FUJI helpline have told me this when i spoke to them, answer because they were to preoccupied in trying to sell me a new camera!!!!!as if, there service is nonexistent and proven!!!!! Why is it called a HELPLINE then should rename it "FUJI RESELL LINE" hey....or maybe "FUJI NON HELPLINE" Also formatted 16mb card same way and working also, maybe i should get a job at FUJI hey only problem is i wouldn't endorse there products, very good picture quality in an unreliable package..suggest any better brand for next time nicoleashley ? ADDENDUM TO PREVIOUS SOLUTION FROM JIM PINEAPPLE--- After you have formatted the XD Card in your computer card reader reinstall card to camera and using the camera software format the card again, this prepares the card to accept it's normal data... P.S. I called the Fuji Ha Ha Helpline here in AUSTRALIA and informed them of this procedure so as to help all the poor souls like us that purchased our only Fuji digital camera, as if they didn't know already, and the moral of the story is as of 27-8-2007 Fuji would be absolute Mongrels to not inform via there helpline how to fix there very common "FOCUS ERROR" problem which is common across the Fuji digital camera range, just google FUJI FOCUS ERROR.... Happy Snapping JIM PINEAPPLE

This is just a suggestion, as I am not an expert.A couple of years ago I had a problem with my older, Fuji Finepix camera related to the computer downloads/programming and I found Fujifinepix web site. I sent them an email and they responded and did not charge anything. Could try that..

Hit the lens (smack it on you're leg); that seems to be the solution..........
But try cleaning the lens and the AF assistent first!!

You will have to disassemble the unit. 2 screws on 1 side and 1 on the other and 2 on the bottom, pop the back off, being careful of the 2 ribbon cables attached to the rear and unock these cables and remove. 3 screws holding the top circuit board (remove the eye piece first and unplug the 2 cables attached to it) carefully unplug all cables attached to this top board and unscrew and remove (there is one on the bottom of the board that you must flip to unlatch. After you remove that board there is the power board... BE CAREFUL!!! The flash capacitor (the black tube looking unit on the bottom of this board) stores chrge and you WILL feel it if you touch the terminals... it they touch metal you will see fireworks so be careful. unplug the single red and black wire plug and unscrew the 3 screws here You do not have to remove the white plug with the 4 or 5 wires because you can just flip the board over out of the uni.. BE CAREFUL!!. unscrew the 2 silver screws securing the metal plate underneath and remove this plate. now remove the single screw left and pull out the lens assem. Here check 2 places... 1 is he zoom screw (it is behind the long silver panel) and also the focus screw (behind the shorter metal panel. Do one at a time. remove the screws from one of them and carefully lift off the motor plate. for he zoom line to metal ring on the screw into the groove of the lens (Shaped like a V) carefully screw the screws back in bu d ni tighten to tight, leave a LITTLE slack. (1/8 turn from tight). Now for the focus screw, remove the cover and align the ring to encase the top of the V The ring is shaped like < the lens is a > so just allow the rinng on the screw to "pinch" the top of the lens groove. secure like you did the other plate (dont forget to back out 1/8 of a turn) reassemble the opposite of disassembly and you are done... it look hard but it is actually pretty easy... any uestions email me at [email protected]
