We bought a house with an IG pool about a year ago, and it came with a Polaris 280 w/track kit. The Polaris used to get off track about once a day. Now it will not stay on for 5 mins. How do we adjust it? Will a new track tire fix it? The pool and Polaris is only 2 years old.
I battled with the track falling off for over a season. The pool guys said they fixed it. Tried the previous solution to adjust middle wheel but no luck. My solution was to remove the left wheel and the tank (to get to the screws). The wheel mount allows for minor adjustment but it is also reversible. Turn the mount around and this will extend the wheel base much more. Mine ran for several hours after doing this and so far the track stays on.
It took me about 20 minutes to complete this task that the pool store would have charged me $75 for. The track has stayed on and works better than new....it climbs walls and stairs with ease. Thanks for the awesome advice!!
I searched the internet and came across this repair...the trax no longer come off. Took about 10 minutes to complete!

I have the same one and the same problem. The pool guys were just here and fixed it. Remove the middle wheel between the two larger wheels that hold the track. Then adjust the tension on the track to were it is nice and snug. This should fix the problem.
I have fought with the track falling off for 4 seasons. I just completed the "best solution" from mfhall77 above. It took about 20 min. total. It seems to work great. I am not sure why, but now the 280 even gets up the steps and cleans them. It never did before. This solution has 2 things going for it. 1 -- it's pretty easy and 2 -- it works!
There is only one way to fix this as far as I can tell....
Mine was coming off all the time because the track was too loose.
You need to make the track tighter by moving the non- geared (left) wheel farther from the gear-driven (right) wheel. This took me 10 minutes, but it would be 5 if I had done it before.
Here are the steps:
1. Remove bag and hose, extract the Polaris from the pool.
2. Remove the track.
3. Remove the left wheel (nearest the tank). To do this, unscrew the white plastic screw in the center of the wheel, then the wheel pulls off, perhaps with some wiggling -- it is a press fit.
4. Remove the screw that holds the tail on with an Allen wrench or pliers.
5. Remove the screw that holds the top blue cover in place. This is reached via a hole in the top center front of the unit. The screw is Phillips; just reach down with a Phillips screwdriver that is at the bottom of the hole.
6. Lift the blue cover and tilt backwards. This should expose a plate held by two screws that hold the axel of the wheel previously removed.
7. Remove these two screws and reverse the axel-plate assembly so that the axel is farther from the front wheel.
8. Reverse the above steps to reassemble the robot.
Try using the cleaner without the track kit.
My pool has a steeply sloping bottom and the standard 280 gets up and down just fine with tracks.
Good luck
