I have a duet gas dryer for the last 6-7 years. We have had no issues until today. I washed and dried 2 loads and each smelled like lighter fluid or the burn smell right after you light a grill. I checked the vent hose, outside vent, inside behind the lint trap (I vacum it out pretty regularly actually) and took the front panel off like you suggested to another person. It all looks clean. The smell does not come from underneith at all, only the drum. Now, we painted a floor with that gray paint last night in the room directly behind the dryer. The manual warns that it may smell funny if paint or varnish is near by, but there are 2 doors and quite a bit of space in between. The clothes smell aweful that came out. I am afraid to let my 2 year old wear them.
First is first ,,, disconnect dryer from plug,, now open bottom panel 2 screws ,, now go and get youre vaccum, shop vac, anything ,, reason for burning smell ,, usually catching on fire ,, we recommend do this 1 as year,,, after cleaning , put about 2-3 fabric sheets inside dryer and let it runn for about 30 minutes to remive smoke from drum,,, thank you

Hi,
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.
if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....
If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

I have been having the same problem lately with my electric dryer, the smell of lighter fluid coming from inside the drum.
i have the same problem with my electric dryer and gas stove. We did prime the basement walls which are below these appliances. I am wondering if it is from that? Did your odor go away?
