oh also it used to play fine , it's only like 7 months young barely used. But it constantly says wrong disk now or no disk only on dvd videos store bought i have all my codecs etc, have winDVD it plays in there, says I have no more region changes, region is on 1.

You need to replace the motor disc spindle because with time lose some velocity and thats why don't play dvds

The error disc usually means a dirty or bad optical pickup in the unit--DVD are more complex than CD etc and blu ray even more so.

The laser pickup assembly will often play CD's but will not play DVD's this is a sign the assembly is failing, far cheaper to replace the player.

Then normal format that all CD's use it what it needs to play.
Normally MP3...or WMA

I know that this sounds obcious but you need to connect the audio leads (L and R) from the player to the amp as well as the control connecter before you connect the speaker cables from the amp. Otherwise just connect the speakers direct to the player.

look for an option on it that un-mutes the the background sound.

I ripped a CD on my computer than tried to play it on the GPX it wouldn't play but the screen said "File". What does that mean and can I get it to play a ripped CD?

You have to burn a CD in "CD/Music" format. You can't burn it as a data CD. Which just sucks cuz doing it in CD format, you can only fit 15 or so songs on each CD. And I wasted a CD finding that out.

You don't say what the recorder does do when you try to record. Any messages?

One possibility - You have to use CD-Audio or CD-Music media for consumer CD recorders.There are probably a zillion logos plastered somewhere on the unit that say what media are compatible with it.
