My ice maker stopped working, I noticed it was not freezing and the top shelves of the freezer warm as was the frig side. I emptied and thawed entire unit and turned it back on. The next AM freezer is working again, ice being made. Minimal frost behind the lower vent visable. Back is inclosed and appears clean. Frig seems cool but not cold on the coldest setting, I don't have a thermometer and I just loaded it up too. I am hesitant that I will lose food again. Any suggestions as to my next step here? I have read about changing the defrost thermostat, bad defrost timer, changing a box unit in the back. Thank you for any help.

J, sounds like your dispensor flapper is not closing properly and you are drawing warm air up into the ice bucket. This model had an issue where the flapper pin holder was part of the housing and would break off. They have a kit now that fixes that problem. The only other thing it could be would be low freezer temps or it's staying in defrost too long. With out being there, I would start with the dispensor flapper. Check it out and post back.. Catriver.

Pull out auger & try With Out auger in place with door open and see if auger motor will spin with out auger and tray IN.. you with have to push door switch in to get auger to work .. with door open
SOURCE: freezer is only cool, everything melting
Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if
there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not
defrosting as it should.
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items.
