Kenmore 110.22642100 that shakes and walks during the highest point in the spin cycle.

I have a Kenmore 110.22642100 that shakes and walks during the highest point in the spin cycle. Even though the suspension and counterweight springs looked OK, I replaced them. The balance ring is 1/3 filled with water, so i don't think it leaked. there is some oil on the top of the gear case under the tub. Any other suggestions as to what could be causing it? The washer is level, and this started a month ago and has gotten progressively worse. Time for a new one? it is probably 5 years old.

SOURCE: washing machine tub banging against the enclosure!!

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If you look at the section on "Machine Base Parts" you'll see a number of springs and vibration pads.

It's possible that one or more of the pads has come loose or broken.

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for top load washers. It has a troubleshooting section that describes the reasons for excessive walking or vibration.

If it's not the springs or pads, you may consider that the "Agitator Cams" in the transmission are not raising the Agitator Gear high enough (about 1/16" ) when the washer goes into spin mode.

See the description of what the Cams do in the Service Manual.

We had the same problem, excessive vibration and noise during the spin cycle.

In order to solve that problem, :

Assuming that you know how to remove the cabinet, agitator (you don't need to remove the tub), pump, motor and transmission the agitator cam and follower use the same whirlpool part number 62580/01. This is a plastic set used to raise the agitate gear on the shaft.

Pull the transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

Remove the transmission cover.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

The two plastic agitate cam parts pull right off. Don't lose the washer on top of the cams.

Replace the cams, washer, spring and clip, pinion, oil (assuming you drained the oil first), cover and clutch parts.

Line up the transmission so that the release cam on the brake drum will snap onto the clutch spring retaining clip and put all parts back in the washer.

The basic tools are screwdriver, small socket set with up to a 1/2" socket, vice grips or good pliers (to remove and replace clips)

It sounds a bit complicated but it really isn't too bad and (For a $15 part, saved buying a $170 transmission.)

If it's not the pads or agitate cams, you may have a bent or damaged drive tube.

See the Whirlpool PDF for commercial washers although the consumer models use the same basic parts.

6,258,448 Search results for "I have a Kenmore top load washer 21202010 how do I run diagnostics" to figure out what all I should buy? It literally tries to walk away during spin cycle.

Question edited a bit for clarity.

So by 'walk away', you mean it vibrates and shakes and moves from where it is sat?

That can't be fixed by any type of diagnostics program. Does it do it on all cycles of just when you wash a double size quilt (uneven load)? If it does it on a mixed load, one of the stabiliser rods or springs has come unfastened. The suspension rods are shown as Part 22 in the Tub and Basket Parts diagram. Sometimes they break, sometimes they come unhooked.

My Kenmore when in spin cycle it shakes all over the floor rattling and shaking

I can't offer a definitive answer but I have had a little experience.

It is possible it is spinning too fast. The brain of the machine needs to know how fast the motor is spinning in order to control the speed. The motor is fitted with a tachometer sender for this purpose. It is important any replacement motor is fitted with an identical tachometer to the original.

The brain is programmed to cycle the spin slowly at first at increasing speeds to allow the washload to settle and for most of the water to be removed so when full speed is reached there will be less vibration. Perhaps the cycle is incomplete or absent and it is starting on a high speed spin...

The washtub suspension can become worn and weak even though it appears intact...

It is conceivable the drum is imbalanced - a drum that is nicely balanced will not vibrate when spinning without a washload.

My Kenmore model # 11029522800 shakes and walks around like crazy when on spin cycle, Larry

Hi Larry, Welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

Stand in front of the machine and tip it so the back legs elevate about 1 inch off the ground and drop it. The rear legs are floating / self adjusting and this is the standard leveling technique. If after you perform this leveling process your washer is still walking during spin there can be suspension pad problems. (Items 13 and 15 of this link) http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-11029522800/0582/0153200/K0810006/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

Washer shakes as if unbalanced during spin cycle I think that part of the suspension has failed, the result is the washer shakes violently during the spin cycle but otherwise seems to perform reasonably...

Whirlpool / Kenmore top load, direct drive washers use a number of springs between the main suspension plate and base assembly as well as friction pads that are designed to minimize shaking.

See the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load washers.

It's likely that one of the springs or pads has broken or come off.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet to get at these.

The sections on machine base or tub should give you a decent diagram of where the springs go.

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Front load washer shakes violently during spin cycle

On something like this you will need to remove the washer wrap to inspect the suspension springs & base assembly. Please see the link provided for accessing the inside of the washer. Be sure the shipping pins have been removed. The tub should float freely.
