I have a Yamaha receiver with 3 zones with this configuration:
Zone 1 support the surround sound system in one room.
Zone 2 supports 2 speakers outside the house.
Zone 3 is hooked up to a second receiver/amp that is being used solely to drive 3-4 pair of speakers.
How do I progam zone 2 and 3. I frequently want to play music from Zone 2 and 3 while the zone 1 is for TV/movies.
Please help. This remote is a MONSTER to program. I would return it if I could because it is not user friendly.
Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. The site has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. The site has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Set-up code list to many brand remote controls also is given. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

Programming Notes
• If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed or your brand is not listed in the code list, use the Auto Code Search method to program your remote.
• Sometimes the first code that "works" with your device may operate only a few functions of your device. There may be another code in the code list that performs more functions. Try other codes from the code list for more functionality.
This is a trial and error procedure; and quiet time consuming. You might have to check different codes said for your device.
SOURCE: Zone 2
The above suggestion may be the cause of the problem. Zone 2 can only play analog, so if you have HDMI connection you cannot output to zone 2.
I resolved my own problem. This is a 7 channel system. Zone 2 needs 2 channels. In my case I bi-amped both front speakers (ran two speaker cables to each). So Zone 1 was using 7 channels, 5 speakers plus 2 added cables for fronts. Zone 2 could not work.
In set up 2 Speaker Settings, select first menu item then scroll to second option on this, change setting from bi-amp to Normal.

SOURCE: onkyo 805 zone 2 problem
I just figured out what I was doing wrong last night. On the 806 at least, when zone 2 is not powered (receiver is set to act) there is a separate volume control 'level' that is on the receiver a couple buttons right of the zone 2 button. By default this level appeared to be set to -50db. As soon as I turned up this level sound came out of my zone two.

Check programming for each zone. Be sure each zone has time on it.
