Can't recognize WiFi card.

I reloaded Windows XP on my Gateway 450rog, and have been unable to get the Wifi to work. It functioned perfectly well prior to the re-installation of Windows. The laptop recognizes there is a lan card installed, but can't recognize the card despite loading the driver numerous times. The card in question is an Intel WM3B2100 and I've downloaded and installed drivers from numerous websites. Windows update doesn't help. Any suggestions?

I finally solved the problem by purchasing a Wifi receiver that plugs into the USB port for about $20. Not the most elegant of solutions, but it works.

Thank you Jim, I did download and install the driver from the Intel website. I also downloaded all the drivers from the Gateway website (out of sheer desperation I also downloaded the wifi drivers that weren't specific to my Intel Lan card). But XP still doesn't recognize my card. The Device Manager still shows a yellow exclamation point next to one of the ethernet controllers. And when I check properties, it tells me the driver is not installed. I was told to make sure wifi was turned on in my Bios settings, but I couldn't find anything specific to my wifi card.

SOURCE: intel WM3B2100 802.11B wireless LAN card driver

    • If the Wireless LAN cards came pre-equipped with the laptops, then the drivers will be available for download straight from gateway's support site found here:
    • Enter your serial number on the back of the gateway, and it will direct you to the correct driver files you'll need.
    • If the wireless cards didn't come shipped with the laptop, you should be able to use the intel support site found here:
Either method should get you to a compatible driver :-)

SOURCE: ethernet not work

Check in the Device manager to see if all the devices are enable and working.
The one with a yellow ? against that device requires a driver installation.
Is the LAN device OK?
How do you intend to setup your LAN, is it for Internet access or a home network?
I need more information on your problem, together with error messages.

SOURCE: Gateway 450ROG laptop audio problem.

You can download a program called SIW for free, it's the top hit under google.

Check to see what the hardware chip is for the video card with SIW and then see if you can download a more current driver from the chips manufacturer.

Or you can also try using the custom windows update so that it searches for updated drivers as well.

If it's working under linux, it should work with windows once you've got the right driver.

SOURCE: Reg: WIFI drivers not getting installed

You need to check first if the wireless switch is turn on.If it is on, check the function key for the wireless. Some computers have function key. Sometimes it is combination of fn and f5. Press those keys at the same time and you should see a pop up window and check if the current status is on. If it is on, uninstall/reinstall the wireless driver in device manager. go to programs and features and look for lenovo readycom, uninstall the software and restart your computer. If this didn't work. You need to do re installation of your operating system.

Wi-Fi stopped working on my Gateway NV77H19u. I can connect to the Wi-FI from a different laptop. Is there an external switch on the NV77H19u to use Wi-Fi?

Your Gateway either has corrupt drivers or has forgotten your WiFi.
Go into your device manager and remove the WiFi device. Then have your computer search for any hardware changes. It will find your wifi device and reload drivers. If this does not work, you have a bad wifi card.

Look in your Device Manager to see if the wireless card is recognized. If not download the drivers from gateway's website.

How do I install wifi on my old Gateway 300S desktop? It doesn't seem to

You have 2 options... 1. Purchase a USB WiFi adapter that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll assume to be Windows XP 2. Purchase a PCI WiFi card card that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll still assume to be Windows XP... PCI is better, but you'll have to physically open up your computer to install it. Either case you'll have to install software drivers for your chosen device.

first, i assume your desktop has a wireless card in it? if it does, you cannot have the cat5 ethernet cable plugged in if you want to look for wireless providers! if the cable is in, take it out. then you should see wireless networks when searching Networks in your settings app. If your desktop does not have wireless card or capability, then there is your answer!don't know how old 508GE is, but many desktops did not come with wireless cards until the last several years or so? and you had to order them or put them in yourself.

XP is too old to access the internet anymore! MS stopped updating or supporting XP years ago. Any system they stop supporting will eventually not be able to communicate with the internet.
