I downloaded the removal tool from symantec and it would not run unless i first removed version of ghost by going to add/remove programs. problem is that no listing of any norton or symantec products show up in add/remove programs. is there a higher strength version of this removal tool? i understand that references to ghost must exist in registry and need to be removed but i was hoping the removal tool would accomplish this
Norton Ghost is used to take data backups. You can't run two programs for same manufacturer on same PC. Sometimes there is a issue with registries of Norton software.
uninstall Norton ghost and then install norton removal tool.

If you tried removing Ghost yourself by deleting foulder or files then it will not appear in the add/remove list. Try reinstalling it and then using removal tool. Make sure you have correct one for version and your OS. My advice is stay away from Norton products, they severely slow down performance and hinder daily activities. There are free tools online that work much better.
