Missing Close Captioning (Unable to Activate)

With a 65% hearing loss thanks to my military service I'm most definitely hard of hearing and would appreciate Closed Captioning, which so far I'm unable to activate. My cable provider is Knology and they've also been unsuccessful in turning it on as well. I'd really appreciate your help, for the volume I'm able to enjoy a show is painfully loud to my family. Thank you, Klarinetos/Lou

Get you cable company to give you the code to undo their control of your tv with their remote then try the cc button on the Protron remote and check the miscellaneous section 3 of your controls and make sure the closed caption option is not on

How to activate close captioning?

There will be a button on the remote control; marked "CC". Press it once, will activate Close Captioning, and an other press to it, will deactivate. This button is a toggle type.

Close Captioning on Dish Network VIP722 DVR Receiver

Christy Hartl,

I can definitely look this over with you. This sounds like it is on one receiver. It is possible it could be the equipment, but first I would like you to check something for me.

Go to Menu -> Preferences (8) -> Closed Captioning (6) -> Caption On/Off (1). Make sure it is selected for "CC is on." Once that's enabled, try it again. If CC's are still not showing, press 'Info' on the remote and see if CC is listed on the program. Let me know if you have any questions.

Okay, have Hitachi 1080 HD. Called several times to Customer Service but they couldnt help. Cannot get the words in English to appear on screen for hard of hearing.

Look in the tv menu for SET UP or AUDIO options.

Look for CAPTION VISION and set to CC1.

Now exit the menu screen.

Now use the INFO or DISPLAY button on the remote to activate the closed captioning.

It should say something like CC1 ON once you get it right.

That should be about it.
Note that not every single channel has closed captioning for every single show and that the words usually take a few seconds to show up on the screen when you change to a new channel.

Good luck, hope this helps. Keep us updated on your progress.

80% of the picture is black

Ok, if the video is present around the outside of the black box you have a problem with close captioning. It is stuck in either Text 3 or Text 4 mode. The options for close captioning are CC1, CC2, Text 1, Text 2, Text 3 and Text 4 and of course OFF. Apparently the close captioning is stuck on or is not being properly shut off. Better read the owners manual to see if you are missing a step when turning off close caption.

Close captioning

I can step you thru the process if you would like. Basicly just get into the on screen menu and go to captioning. Usually near on in the audio settings of the television and select CC1 and it should work fine after that. Good luck.... Jay
