Sounds like it may have been overloaded, or unblanced, I would say it would be better to replace....it can get pricey if the first fix doesn't work. Washers don't cost what they use to, get a scratch and dent sale item and save money too!

If it is a ge kenmore it sounds like your tub bearing is dry and needs to be replaced.The reason i say ge kenmore is because they fall under differant companys depending on witch year you bought it

The inside of your agitator became worn, and possible strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. The loud noise mustly occurs during the spin cycle. If you hear this loud noise your load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it.

Loud cliunking noise in beginning of spin then won't spin

get a flashlight and see if a foreign object has fallen down through one of the tub holes and is jamming the tub you have to look real close
