After warms up, first get some lightly black vertical lines on part of the screen, fade in and out. After long play, bright white vertical lines appear like jail bars. Turn off and cool down, vertical lines go away until tv on for about an hour. See other have same problem and may need DMD Board, BP94-00478a. All sources say it is not available. TV 10 years old, replace color wheel and light two years back. Is it worth repairing? I think not??

I did some reading on this. They said its caused by a faulty DMD board. I understand it's costly... around $700 to replace. Still looking for a cheaper avenue...
SOURCE: black and white picture only
The color wheel is not the problem. If the spinning color wheel is impaired in its RPMs it will cause picture distortion, not black and white picture. If the color wheel looses any of its color fins, like if it is broken, there will be a loud vibrating noise inside the tv which you did not mention. Also if the color wheel is broken and doesn't spin, the tv will not start up.
The likely problem is on the digital control board or the power supply and should be referred to a local repair shop for repair.
There is an outside chance that you will receive color if you experiment with using all of the different input ports to see if you can find one that will bring back color.

Since you have replaced the Color Wheel, it sounds like you have not adjusted the Index Delay in the service menu. First reset all of the picture settings you have adjusted back to original factory settings. Then on your Samsung TV Remote and with the TV OFF, Press Mute,Power,123. This will turn on the set and put you in the Service menu. Look for the top setting and select or scroll to the OPTION setting and select and look for INDEX DELAY and select that. Once you have the Index Delay selected use the right and left buttons on the remote to adjust for a picture the has no abnormal coloring and while looking at a program adjust for when the blacks look black with no abnormal coloring. Once that is done, turn off the set then turn the set back on. Now the picture should look normal.

I googled the DMD board and no one has it or it costs over $500. I can buy a new 42 inch new flat screen tv for this. So repairing a 10 year old DLP tv is out of the question. I will pull the light bulb and color wheel out and post for sale cheeply on the internet. Thanks for your replies.
