When we start a load of laundry in the washer, the spin setting will start to change itself and not stop. It happens for about 1 minute then will stop and then a minute later continue to change itself. Is there anything that can help or do we need to get a new washer?
HELP I HAVE THE SAME IS ISSUE AS\r\n
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1457953-maytag_neptune_tl_spin_settings
My Spin cycles keep cycling through, it seems to wash fine but is always beeping and changing through the spin selection.
Is it the control board, ribon cable, membrane??
HELP!
Nate
I would try verify that the spin cycle membrane key is not stuck/defective signaling the controller to cycle thru the spin settings. I have not experienced this issue but let’s try the Membrane Pad Test to get a start point.
Do you have the troubleshooting guide stored in the control panel? It was shipped with the machine, pull 120VAC washer power plug, remove the top three torx screws at he top back of the control panel and remove the trouble shooting guide. Rassemble and power up your machine. Follow the instructions for Membrane Pad Test. You will enter Service Mode to verify that the key pad function LED can be toggled, just press each key once except the Presoak key as described below. If you don’t have the Troubleshooting guide that came with your FAV6800A I have pasted in the test from the SM;
Enter / Exit Service Mode
To enter Service Mode press the Enviro Plus and Spin
Only keys for three seconds or until the control beeps.
Membrane Pad Test
While in Service Mode, pressing the Presoak key will
start a membrane switch check that verifies switch
operation. All the LEDs (except Presoak ) can be toggled
or slewed by pressing the key associated with the LED or
set of LEDs. Each time either set delay arrow is pressed
the digits toggle between a blank and 8. All keys
(including the OFF button) must be pressed within 5
minutes for this test to pass. “PA” will be displayed for
five (5) seconds once all keys have been pressed and the
test is completed. Following 10 seconds of inactivity at
any point, this test will exit without any display.
Let us know your results.
Hello jonathantyle,
I feel this is a repairable situation with your machine but further fault isolation/troubleshooting of the Membrane Pad, the ribbon cable connection to the control board or a failed function of the control board are required. My best guess is a hard short or corrosion bridge between pins 5&4 of the of ribbon cable of the Membrane Pad, my second guess is a corrosion bridge at Pins 5&4 at the socket connection on the control board. Caution do not make any ohm meter readings on the control board, that could possibly destroy the control board. Your supplied troubleshooting guide will show you the pin outs of the Membrane Pad, and continuity checks associated with the key pad if you want to try a DIY repair. If the continuity checks test OK I would replace the control board and hope for the best. If you feel uncomfortable with a DIY repair I would turn to qualified Service Repair Company.
This site can point you to parts suppliers or Google Maytag FAV6800A parts, The Membrane Pad and controller board are around $190 each.
I’m a DIY’er and not a Service Tech, I had problems with the Clutch in this machine causing dc/UC error codes in spin cycle and did a DIY repair (WD-40 lube of clutch bearings) after visiting this site and many others for a repair solution. My machine was purchased in 7/05. I did contact Maytag Customer Service about what I felt was the early failure of this machine, the 1st level service rep offered me 15% rebate on the purchase of one of their products. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was offered 25% rebate. I chose the DIY repair solution.
Good luck
Hi Kacie, I’m very sorry to hear about your issue. To make sure I understand the issue you mentioned “”control panel buttons don't respond while it is in "the spin cycle meltdown".””. Did you make it to spin cycle while running a normal wash load? After a power up power down (breaker reset) you can’t get into any Wash Cycle or Spin Only Cycle is that correct? If this is so then I don’t believe you will be able to get into Service Mode by pressing the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or beeps. I would guess from here that the control board has failed but let us know if you can get into Service Mode. Do you think you may have haad a power surge caused by a recent storm activity? Let us know what findings you come with. We will try to help, take care and good luck to you.
Post to jonathantyle if you are still around. Did you ever resolve your issue with the Spin function key cycling thru the settings? If you did can you share with us what the fix was. Thank you Rich
Hello tminutes,
This could be a difficult problem to troubleshoot as you can tell by the lack of technical response. If it's not an issue with the Spin Select Key or corrosion at the connector plug and ribbon cable then I would guess it's an issue with the control board. The control board is under warranty for 5 years. I will try to work with you if you want to go forward with further troubleshooting and a possible DIY fix. Rich

Question to mgrey Have you made any progress on this issue?
Nate,
I missed your post I did not look at comment posted as a solution. Are you still having this issue? This issue I feel will be difficult to troubleshoot but I will try to help. You should post as new issue. I have seen several of these post with no real feedback from owners as to issue status. Open up a new problem and lets go from there. I'm an owner like you and if I can't help maybe a appliance repair folks will chime in on this issue. An issue such as this may require troubleshooting with an OHM Meter on the console membrane key pad. Would you want to troubleshoot? Let me know.

Ribbon connection from the membrane pad to the control board will fail (designed to) the connection ribbon flops around while the washer runs and eventually breaks the connections in the ribbon. Its made of some weird material but is repairable with some fine wire and sewing stick pin needles ;-) solder a pin to the each end of a small gauge wire and stick it through the material on each side of the break. The break usually happens right where the ribbon connects to the membrane pad. It can be hard see sometimes. $174.00 is the cheapest replacement I could find. I have had mine rigged like this for over a year but more connections keep breaking so I am gonna get a replacement soon ;-(

I think I have the same problem. On my washer, the lights on the spin section will cycle from low to med to high to max extract over and over again. I can't get it to stop doing this. However, the washer will (sometimes) allow me to wash a load of laundry. Sometimes, the washer will turn itself on and do the spin cycle thing. Any help for a possessed washer? :)
Obnoxious beep beep beep. The control panel buttons don't respond while it is in "the spin cycle meltdown". Can't turn it off. Cut the breaker to possibly reset control panel, but to no avail. Read the below instructions for DIY repair and membrane check. Will attempt. Thanks for the help. For the record I agree that this machine was faulty and this is the second repair necessary since 2005. Word to the wise heard about class action lawsuit against Maytag specifically regarding this model (neptune TL). Call 888. 462. 9824 and listen for info about lawsuit if interested. Hope this helps some other poor soul that purchased this item in good faith. Down with the conglomerates.
Washer acts normal but the spin setting on the console will begin rotating through the cycle back and forth.....sometimes the washer will complete the wash, then it might go back on by itself. I saw some solutions on doing a check on the membrane, I will try this. Also something about Pins 4 and 5 on the board or ribbon connector - I will look at this also. If any other solutions are out there, let me know. I just fixed one problem on the machine and this started 3 days later.
I have the same problem as Jonathan Tyler
" On my washer, the lights on the spin section will cycle from low to med to high to max extract over and over again."
It seems that lights cycle when washer is changing from wash to rinse to spin. Once on spin it keeps cycling the lights & beeps. So a 60 minute cycle is on 75 and not done.
OK, I tried the Membrane Switch Check and everything works... except the Spin membrane. That button did nothing during the test, but all of the other buttons worked fine. This washer is about 5 years old and the problem started only about three months ago.
what do you mean the spin setting,,,do you mean the timer,,???more detail please
