PD5OU compatible with PS3 720 P games?

I have read a lot about the ps3 machine not converting 720p games into 1080i. When I play ps3 games on this television does the tv automatically downscale the signal to 480? or does it convert the signal into 1080i.(Basically, can my tv make up for the ps3's inability to convert the signal) I have noticed that ps3 games seem to have a slightly mirky effect on my tv. My xbox360 games look much sharper. The xbox 360 acts like an HD cable unit in that it converts the signal to 1080 for my tv. Or maybe I'm just paranoid!

SOURCE: 720p is putting out signal of 480i or p only

Your cable company must provide the 720p in order for the set to display it. No set can convert a 480i signal to display 720p. This also applies to Outside antenna and Satellite and Games. The ps3 will look at the program and decide which resolution is best for the game then send it on to the set.

New ps3,new 40in. samsung 3d led, new monster hdmis yet when i play god of war3 which is capable of 1080i it automatically gives me 720 not even 720p. so i unchecked 720p in setup and it gave me 1080 not...

To change this setting, you must exit the application and change your Video Output Settings from the display settings option in the Settings menu. Make sure the tv is not set on 720p/i and that it is set to 1080i. There has been issues with games that are 1080 downscaling the resolution. this can be confirmed by reading this article. if you provide me with the model of the tv. I can help assist you in ensuring its on 1080p. If you need further assistance please let me know after you try the following above. Thanks, Midwest-tek

MY PS3 DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORK WITH THE HIGH DEFINITON CABLE IT CAME ON FORA FEW SECONDS THEN SCREEN COMES UP WITH NO SIGNAL????

This usually happens when you first buy your ps3 and try to use the HDMI connection immediately. The problem is that the ps3's default output resolution is set to 480i out of the box, and when you try to use an HDMI connection first, HDMI can't do that resolution. HDMI only does 480p, 720p 1080i and 1080p.
See :)

This also happens if you move your ps3 a lot. As it is, HDTV's are either 1080p (full HD) or 720p (including 1080i). If, for example, your tv is 1080p, when you set your display settings in the ps3 menu, it will set your XMB, or ps3 main menu to the max resolution of your tv, 1080p in this case. The resolution will automatically adjust when you start a game, and that game has a native resolution output. That's why, most of the time, games will play in 720p, because that's there native, or original, resolution. This is also the reason why sometimes people have no display on there TV, or a black screen, and when they play a game, that will actually display. That's because your tv can ACCEPT that resolution of that game.

  • Have your ps3 in standby mode (red light).
  • Now, press and hold the power button in the front down. Your ps3 will beep twice. Let it go almost exactly after you heard the second beep.
  • Wait 10-15 seconds. A display will show up, and just answer yes to all!

HDMI-can't get tv to stay 1080i

This is natural, the PS3 does not stretch the signal like the Xbox does so games play at there native resolution (720p) there is nothing wrong with your TV or your PS3 and you would not see any difference in the games graphics if it was in 1080i. I'm playing my PS3 on a 46" 1080p TV and my PS3 games look great in 720p.

PS3 wont go 1080i/720p

I don't think there is a way to set your resolution manually, bro. They do it all by auto. If I may make a suggestion... Turn off both the TV & PS3. Unplug your HDMI, then make sure both your TV & PS3 are turned ON. Now re-connect your HDMI. A TV tech once told me that these units "communicate" through the HDMI. This can only occure whilst they're up & running. This may help get you going on to 1080i.
p.s. PS3 games only output 720p, max! This isn't always the case for Blu Ray movies, but it is for games. Good luck!

How do I put it to 1080 resolution

I have this same TV and a PS3. You either need to get a HDMI - DVI cable, or plug in some component cables in order to get 1080i from your PS3. Your DVD's will upscale to 1080i and your Blue_Rays will run at 1080i, but be aware, if you play PS3 games that only read 720p on the back of the game box, the PS3 will down convert them to 480p instead of upconverting them to 1080i.

Peace, Bob
