SOURCE: I need drivers for DCR-HC42E

SOURCE: cannot find sony usb cable to connect cam to pc
This problem has largely been answered by one of people posting the problem. Once the disk has been finalised in the camera remove it and insert it in the PC's DVD drive. If it "Autoruns" you will be asked what you want to do. If you have no third party video editing software on your machine select .....using Windows Movie Maker and "Import" the footage into that program. If the disk doesn't "Autorun" start WMM and import from your DVD drive (probably drive "D"). Use WMM's Help to find your way around.

The Windows 7 Operating System is not compatible with the USB Streaming feature of the Camcorder.
You can transfer the videos to the Windows 7 Computer using an i.LINK (Firewire) Cable.
You can use the Windows Movie Maker Software to transfer the videos from the Camcorder.
Please follow the steps mentioned in the below link to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer

Well Windows 7 has no camera drivers at all built-in, Sony are developing them I am told, if you use a Firewall cable to PC then no drivers are needed.
SOURCE: I have DCR-HC 36E and
Hi, This solution is only applicable for the selected camcorder models. You can follow the steps mentioned below for the DCRHC36 models. Only the USB driver included on the supplied CD-ROM will properly enable the camcorder for USB streaming. The USB Streaming Driver can only be installed from the supplied Software CD. o NOTE: The computer must have compatible video capture software to complete this procedure. Many video editing software applications include a capture function. If you have video editing software, you might not need a separate video capture application. Good Luck FixYa
The USB streaming driver for the Camcorder is not available
for Windows 7 OS from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible to transfer
videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer
videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on Windows 7
Operating System.
Please
follow the steps to transfer video to a computer using an i.LINK connection
(IEEE 1394).
IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card must
be installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, various
video capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, Microsoft
Windows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on your
computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for further
information.
NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgate
Plus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click To
DVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive or
directly to a DVD.

port.
NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cards
may have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINK
ports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it will
be necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
It should now be possible to copy the video using
the video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configured
correctly.
