When the shutter release button is depressed, ( on auto focus ) the camera focusses, shows the focusing light in the viewfinder, bleeps but doesn't shoot . I focus on auto, then change to manual and it still doesn't fire. When it does work, it is sometimes a second or two slow.
I can get it to shoot if I quickly press the shutter release button 5 or 6 times.
Any ideas ? Thanks for your help.
Simon.
Are you sure you aren't in the delay setting in drive mode? This camera has 2 delay settings, one for 2 seconds between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo, and one with 10 seconds delay - often used when you want to be in the photo (e.g. self-portrait or group photo).
If you aren't in the delay mode, then I need to know more about your settings. What shooting mode are you using? What type of photo are you trying to take (portrait, landscape, sports)? Are you shooting indoors, outdoors, bright sunlight, overcast, etc.?
Here are some things to check:
1) Are you fully pressing the shutter, or 1/2 pressing? Try 1/2 pressing first (to establish focus and exposure and focus) then pressing all the way, and see if it takes the shot right away when you fully press.
2) Is the lens having any problems finding focus?
3) How long have you had the camera? Is it still under warranty, and have you ever had it serviced? It may simply need servicing.

Thanks for your comments, I'll have a look through the manual and see if it's on a delay setting. I shoot mostly landscapes and generally use the P mode, sometimes manual. The problem occurs whatever setting I use though. I've also changed the cf card and reset the camera back to its default settings.
Cheers, Simon.
