My OS treats simple drive as a ghost

I recently re-formatted my pc and backed up my entire hard drive on on Simpledrive's external hard drive format. The pc is Alienware and I used it's software to "respawn". After getting all systems back to order I went to pull old favs back and it had labled the drive as a ghost drive and I can't access anything. Any help is appreciated.

I have the simple tech 1 tb external hard drive, I updated my mac OS and now my drive can no longer be read or opened???

Apple will recognize a FAT 32 format. Connect the drive to another machine - a PC. Copy your data to this computer, format the drive to FAT32, copy your data back and it chould be accessable to the MAC system again.

I just got the HITACHI SimpleDrive 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive HSD1000 recently and downloaded some files from a mac on to it, now I'm trying to access the information from it from a Windows &...

The external hard disk must be formated in a file system that both the pc and the mac can use - best is FAT32. In your case the file system that the mac put on the disk is incompatible with the pc.
Make sure the files you want to move are still on the mac (if not copy them back from the disk), plug the disk in the pc and format it there in FAT32 (don't use the quick option), plug it in the mac and copy the files and unmount the disk before disconnecting it from the USB connector. Now you can put it in the pc - in there always use the Safely disconnect icon, don't just yank out the cable.

My external was plugged into a pc and I have a mac now it is coming up as unreadable on my mac. How do I fix this?

Your device has been formatted to the PC format and the MAC doesn't recognize the extension.
From the Simple Tech site (troubleshooting):
If I wanted to use the portable drive on a MAC "and" a PC, what is needed? For use on a MAC and PC you will need to re-format the drive to be compatible. You can do this by going to disk utilities and selecting "the drive" (not the untitled volume). You will then select "erase" from the top of the screen. The process will allow you to select a format option. You should choose "MS-DOS File System". Then select the "erase" from the bottom of the screen.
Once the process is complete, you will have an additional folder on your desktop that is the SimpleDrive. You can copy and paste or drag and drop file to it. If during the first pass you are unable to change the volume format option, please repeat all steps and it should allow you to select this on the second try.

Trying to drag all files from itunes into lacie 250 g design by porsche hard drive and it won't let me.

Thank you for asking your question with FixYa Support.

I am not sure what type of computer you have that your LaCie is connected to, but first and foremost, make sure the external hard drive has been properly formatted to work with the operating system your computer has.
For Windows computers: the LaCie should be formatted in either FAT32 or NTFS (recommended- more secure).
How to Format a HD in Windows Vista
For Mac computers: the LaCie should be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your LaCie is already formatted, then the best way to import your entire iTunes library from the internal hard drive of your computer into the LaCie, especially if you are unable to drag and drop the library into you LaCie, is to try a simple copy and pasting of the ENTIRE iTunes folder from its home on your computer to the LaCie hard drive.

You can also use the website I like to reference which provides some good alternatives to effectively migrating your iTunes Library from a PC or Mac to your external hard drive:

Here is that support link:
How to Transfer iTunes Library to another Computer
(also included in this article, are external hard drives)

For sake of space, I want you to review this article, because I not only agree with its content, it is exactly what I would explain to you as well in a more condensed, easy to follow fashion.

I hope I have helped guide you well on your question.

Looking for the Mac driver for a 500gb

A ahhhh Mac driver? A mac should just pick up the fact that you plug in an external drive. It might even detect if it's formatted Windows NTFS. You probably have to format it for Mac OS.

I have a 500g external simple drive. i am getting a message that i can only read on my mac.

Copy all the data onto your Mac computer.

Take the external drive to a PC computer, and "reformat" it, using "quick format".

Take the external drive back your Mac computer,
and write all the "saved" files onto the drive.

Why wont it work?

doesn't seem that "Simple" if you ask me. I don't think PC hard disks are compatible with Mac's. you might have to get a Mac compatible External HD.

SimpleDrive External Hard Drive

A Purchased Externa HD should be formatted for PC 32bit therefore readable univerally in any PC system but it will not read in a Mac. The would have to be formatted for Mac and will then only read in a Mac. So you decided where you want the drive to go .PC or Mac and we will take it from there
