No it won't BUT the BIOS may not support a 500 Gb hard disk, it will see it as a smaller capacity hard drive.

SOURCE: iomega 500 Gb external hard drive - won't allow transfer of large files

go into Device Manager and into the properties of the drive, then Power Mangement and tell Windows not to allow power to be reduced to save energy.

go to a computer shop and buy a kingston solid state hard drive-250 gig for around $65.00 aud
next obtain a copy of win 7 with a registrable licence code and insert it in a cd drive
turn the computer on and hold down the delete key until the bios screen appears
move to boot tab
select cd as first boot device , yes and hit the esc key
turn off the computer then restart it
the bios direct will activate the cd and load the program into the hard drive and you are up and running
when finished , go back to switch off and do the bios start again and this time set the first boot back to hard drive
A 250 gig sshd is equal to 500 gig disc type and will not fail as there are no moving parts

How to I reallocate my 500 gb external hard drive so I have more space for my laptop - I have 250+GB space avilable for my destop but I am getting "disk full" for the laptop.

you should be able to connect the external hard drive to your laptop and the drive should show up under my computer. Then just drag and drop or cut and paste any files you want to move to the external hard drive.

hope this helps.

I have a inspiron 6000 what kind of hard drive do i need?

From what i have read it is an IDE hard drive and any size shouls work. I would take drive out to be sure and stick to a 120 GIG or 160 GIG. That way it should be recognized without having to do a complicated bios flash. Good Luck

WD 500 GB resized by Norton Ghost Restore to 120 GB and can not get it to original size.

You should partition your new drive first to say 160Gb (you lose a bit after formatting) for 1st partition and the remaining capacity for the 2nd partition. Because your Ghost image is 120Gb it can only restore to a partition of 120Gb, that is why it shows 120Gb on a 500Gb on a single partition.
You may be able to fix this problem without starting again by using Disk Manager (from Control Panel - Admoinistrative Tools) to create a 2nd partition on the hard drive and format this partition.
