Question about Jenn-Air JCD2389G Side by Side Refrigerator

Jenn Air Refrigerator

Hello Catriver:

I have another issue that I could some help on. By the way, I appreciate your help on the other items in the past.

I have a Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator that does not cool well on the refrigerator side. I have at least tracked down the issue to the evaporator coils on the freezer side. They are not defrosting. I'm dragging out the hair dryer about once a week, and it's time for a real fix.

I've read other comments about similiar issues with the same model. I've tested the continuity on the heater coil and it appears that it does NOT close the loop. I can not get a "zero" reading when plugging the ohm meter into the snap plug for the heater. It reads something like .02 and never zero regardless which wires I attach to. Now if that doesn't confuse me enough, there is a routine clicking noise coming from the refrigerator cabinet at or very near the adaptive defrost control. I'm real confused and could use some direction before I start buying parts.

Thanks in advance for any direction.

    Hey Catriver,

Is there a trick to removing the control panel cover? It seems to be binding on the styrofoam vent coming from the freezer compartment. Do I need to remove anything from the other isde to get this thing off? I hate to force it, I know it will break easy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Catriver, I replaced the Adaptive Defrost Timer and I think it's working. I'll know in a couple of days. Thanks for your help!!

To all reading this post. Jenn-Air was willing to pay for the Adaptive Defrost Timer, however you were required to hire an authorized repair agent. I opted to repair it myself. If you can not make that repair, call Jenn Air and at least have them pay for the part.

Hi Tom, I think the clicking you are hearing is the board jumping into and out of defrost. You can test it your self by shorting L1 to test on the board. If it goes into defrost and jumps right back out (another click) it's probably the board. Unplug the harness and measure the continuity between 2 and 3 on the disconnect plug. On the Rx 1 scale you should read 20 to 40 ohms. If you have that the heater and T stat are ok. If not then go after the heater and T stat. The heater should ohm out at about 26.5 ohms. When you do the resistance checks on 2 and 3 make sure to unplug it from the board and have the power off. I believe it is a yellow and white/blk wire. Catriver

Tom, in back there are two square holes that you can put a finger in on each side. Pull down at the rear in these holes and pull the panel straight out as you are pulling down. These can be a real beast. I have broken many in my time. You might try one side at a time until they release. Catriver.

Sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out for troubleshooting the defroster problem.

Jenn air refrigerator temp gauge problem

Hi again,

In your particular model I believe it is termed as "MaxCool". It is also possible that the sensor for the refrigerator is covered by a food item and therefore was getting erroneous readings hence cutting off early (making the temp go higher than normal). Based on this, you can try switching the food items around relocating them as to how they were placed inside. Incidentally, frequent opening and closing of the refrigerator of course would be exposing the inside to warmer air making the unit work harder.

The reset requires that the unit be unplug for an hour or more hence my suggestion during the Live Session to make use of a second refrigerator while checking out the Jenn Air.

Towards the bottom of the freezer is the water diversion tray for when it defrosts. It is usually made of glass but may not be. Lift that up an see if it is blocked by frozen water ice blocking the cold air vent that recirculates and also feeds into your refrigerator.

If this doesn't help wait long enough and one of the other experts on the site will help you. If it does solve your problem I wouldn't be too surprised as I've seen this so many times.

Well, regards and good luck,

Icemaker problems

Woody, This is one of the easier dispenser assy. to fix. The flapper is pretty simple, it clips on to the hinge assy. The hinge assy. has a spring that closes the flapper. There is a selenoid that pulls the flapper open. You can look up the parts on the net to see what they would cost. Flapper-12562701, hinge assy. 67004119, solenoid-12575401,spring 12565502. I don't know if you need all of them, Im not there to see. But if you have some time on your hands you could save a lot of money doing it yourself. Once fixed, you should be good for a long time.
