Two issues: if it isn't playing Region 1 discs, then that particular player was designed for use outiside of the US. It is illegal to change the region code, so I would call Philips and get a replacement. But, if you want, there are YouTube videos that show you how to unlock the code - it can only be used 3 times and then it locks up permanently.

Second issue: if it won't play NTSC DVD's, go into the menu and take it off of PAL - if it is stuck on PAL, then that player was definitely designed for outside the US. Call Philips and get a replacement.

The PET940 is the general model number - afterwards is a country code - if it doesn't say PET940/17 or PET940/37, then it is a non-US player.

I need a way to play dvd's from China. My wife brought her english training dvd's from china but we can not use them on a region 1 dvd. My dvd drive is a matshita DVD +- RW UJ890

Hi, you are partly correct, your region 1 player is also in NTSC format, other regions are in PAL format...... So even if you converted your player to multi region or bought a multi region player it still would not play a PAL disk which the Chinese disks would be! The only way you could do this is to buy a multi region PAL/NTSC format DVD player.

Wrong region

probably you are trying to play a disc that is not zone free or you need a code for your player to make it zone free. you may be playing a zone 2 disc ( PAL) on a machine that only takes zone 1 (NTSC) or vica-versa.

Will the dvp 311ok play ntsc dvd i am in australia and i am reg 4

As long as the NTSC DVDs are not region coded, and your TV is multi-standard (able to receive NTSC as well as PAL signals via A/V inputs or similar connections), the player should play NTSC just fine through it

I assume this is a PHILIPS player? If so, most PHILIPS DVD players support NTSC playback on PAL TV.

You are correct, Australia is region 4 for DVD standard. The only restriction would be region codes.

Will not play dvds

  • make sure to use lens cleaner to ensure DVD player is free of dust and dirt on laser lens
  • another cause would be that your DVD player is no multi-region or not region free, because many DVDs have region settings. in order to make your philips DVD player region free (can play all region DVDs) check link below:

Trying to play dvd but says wrong region soneynhv-dx350ab?

Hi, if its saying wrong region. then either your player or disk is incompatable. region 1 ntsc ( USA ) Region 2 ( UK ) et,c. check your players region coding is compatable for your country, and that you are also playing a dvd with the same region coding as the player. alternatively is to try and find a region free or multi-region solution. Multi region code for philips hts 3090 dvd player

With your set on and without disc in the tray:

1. Press PLAY from your remote control
2. Press the following button sequence: 1590 2379 390
3. Press PLAY again

This will release the region verification in your home theater (region free). However, some DVDs (multiregion in particular) will not play, since they require region detection from the player unit.

I've done this to my 3090 and been using it like this for 3 years.

Philips 7" DVD portable player

The PET702 will be a region 5 machine, whereas the UK DVDs are region 2.

DVD players from a particular region are designed to play only DVDs from the same region, due to copyright and distribution rights in each country or region.

However the PET702 can have the region protection removed by making it multi-region:

Switch on the PET702 and Open the tray.

Press SETUP button on the remote control, which will bring up the menu.

Highlight "PREFERENCES" and press OK.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [2], [5], [2], [3], [1], [5], [LEFT], [DOWN]

The screen will show: "Region Code: 2"
Press [1-6] to manually set the region OR [0] for multi-region.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [SETUP] to exit winksmiley.gif

You will now be able to play DVDs from anywhere in the world.

This is particularly useful, because region 1 DVDs from the US often come out when the movies are still in the cinemas over here. Region 1 DVDs can be bought perfectly legally by mail order or from the internet.

Help

HI,
it depends on whether the drive is multi-region ?
Some drives are region Set, i.e Region 1 ( NTSC-USA )
Region 2 ( UK PAL )
Most Players Are Region Set, To the country they are purchased in, you can sometimes set the player to become, multi-region, via various buttons on the remote or by the front panel.
I offer a service to unlock 99% of DVD Players, to play all or many regions.
We do have a charge for this Service.
Many Thanks mike @ Compurepair.
