I have a Panasonic TH-50PZ85U Plasma and get no sound when playing a DVD, but there IS sound on the root menu and also the "Trailers" section of the DVD. This problem is only when playing a DVD as the TV sound works fine. I've played DVDs on both this player and TV before with no problem. I also put in a DVD that I've watched before that I knew had worked previously. Still no sound while playing the movie. It seems to be a problem with the Viera feature because when I push the "Viera Link" button on the remote, the sound will start playing intermittently for a few seconds and then stop. I don't happen to know any 10 year olds so anything you can suggest would be great. Thanks!
UPDATE: It appears it's a problem with the DVD's themselves. Or the way the sound is encoded or the format of the disc or something. I just put on two newer ones and no problem. It's a couple of cheapie versions that have the issue. I know nothing about this type of stuff so I'm floundering here. LOL Just wanted to update my issue.

NEW UPDATE: I changed the audio settings on the DVD player one at a time and checked after each change and still no sound, so I set them back to what they had been and when the movie came back on there was sound! (In all my trolling for a solution, someone had said about a similar problem, that maybe this would help since the system would need to be reset for the "handshake" phase.) Whatever it was, it worked. Fools and angels...

Make sure the speakers did not get switched to off.
Or from internal to external if it has that feature.
Also see if sound when a DVD etc. is connected to rear av inputs.
If using a box, a receiver etc--unplug them all and wait a short while and plug back allowing all to try to reboot.
If none of this helps you may have a audio problem in the set--most of these sets the entire audio circuit is on the main board but a look inside at where the speakers connect to will answer that.
My ex-husband threw away the pedestal stand for the Polaroid Polaroid FXM-3211C TV DVD Combo which I now have. I need a pedestal stand....do you know where I can find one?
Most common thing to happen is a capacitor went bad on one of the circuit boards making the loud POP sound. Odds are it's on the Power Supply Board if the TV isn't showing power at all. The picture below what a bad capacitor looks like.
They range from different sizes and color. Swollen, deformed, and raised top is the thing to look for.
Solder in a new capacitor on the board or replace the whole circuit board.
