When using the presser foot lever or the knee lift lever, the presser foot will not go up or down. My Janome MC9000 is 17yrs old.

That's the problem seized up use a penetrating oil from the top and work it up and down and it should free up
SOURCE: presser foot won't go all the way down

This is a relatively easy adjustment as I just did one last week but I'm not sure I can explain it. Anyway, open up the lamp cover and look at the top of the presser bar. There is a sensor that is easily adjusted. It has a small phillips screw that you need to loosen. Then move the black 'L' shaped piece either up or down a little (I can't remember which way) and re-tighten the screw, you may need to experiment. The 'L' shaped piece is a flag that goes between two sensors when the foot is raised and can be rotated left and right about 10 degrees. I hope that helps.
SOURCE: the presser foot lever seems to have lost tension.
What is the brand and model of your machine?
SOURCE: Elna serger 925 presser foot lift lever broke off.
Purchased an Elna Pro 925 DCX and it was missing the sewing cover to do sewing without using the blades. This is a plastic cover piece that snaps on to the machine when coverstiching. Where can I fing this part?

I was told that the machine would have to be sent back to Janome to replace parts
