Here is the manual-- read it cover to cover--
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/ETXtelescopes/ETX-90%20w-autostar%20man.pdf

1. Take off the lens cap

2. Put your lowest magnification eyepiece into the telescope on the TOP eyepiece port-- there is a lever on the side which rotates the diagonal mirror between the top and rear ports --- can you see light through the telescope? If not turn the lever.

3. During the day practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away-- the image will be upside down -- this is not a problem-- no UP or Down in space.!

4. The lowest magnification eyepiece is the one with the LARGEST number on it.

The eye piece threads are stripped. This renders the telescope useless.

Eyepieces DO NOT have threads -- they slip into either the focuser or the diagonal depending on which scope type you own.

You MUST MEAN the focuser is stripped-- a new 60mm focuser assembly will cost you about $20-$30 if you can find one. Call Meade first here:
http://www.meade.com/support/index.html and see if they will sell you one. If not look around this web site:

Put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT USE the 2x barlow if you have one. Try focusing on a distant object during the daytime--- again.

If I look through the eye piece and see my own eye am I missing somthing?

You are NOT in focus-- turn the focus knob . You may need to turn it several times either to the right or the left. Use the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it and practice focusing during the daytime on a distant object.

When i look through th eye piece i dont see anything just black i dont know much about it except that i cant see anything out of it

If you have a refractor style telescope like the picture, put the diagonal into the scope, DO NOT USE the 2x barlow if you have one.

Then put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the diagonal. Go outside during the day and practice focusing on a distant object.

I got a mead ds-114 telescope. & don't know how to use it!

the eye piece that came with your scope is too powerful... look on ebay or a site that sells telescopes. also look at the size of your eye piece holder... my ds-114 came with a 0.96 holder, these are an odd size.. the other size is 1.25 and the eye pieces are much easier to find. try looking at the moon when it is cresent shaped and start from there. if you have the autostar, you have to go through a set up sequence to start. then the scope will track the objects that you select on the goto function. don't give up!

During the day time-- put the lowest magnification eyepiece in the telescope... the one with the biggest number on the barrel; practice focusing on a distant object.

Telscope eye piece

Eyepieces are for the most part interchangeable. Your scope will have a focuser on it in one of 3 diameters. 2", 1.25", and the rare .965". Most inexpensive scope will use a 1.25" eyepiece. 2" focusers are usually found on more expensive scopes used for astrophotography due to the increased field of view with the larger diameter. Plossl eyepieces are fairly inexpensive and are good for all around use. I would suggest getting 2 one at 25mm or greater and one around 9mm. http://www.telescopes.com has a large selection however their are many suppliers out there. Good luck and happy star hopping

Focus Issues

Try tightening the grub screw that fastens the knob onto the shft that it turns.

Better still, buy a flexible extended focusser which makes focussing much easier. Check on eBay for "Meade flexible focus"
