Toner Cart chip reset for Ricoh Aficeo sp c400dn

You can try this first. Unplug the machine from the wall socket. clean the contacts on the toner cartridge, and the contacts on the machine with Isopropyl Alcohol.

Was it a Genuine Ricoh cartridge or a hinky mall refill. You might need to buy a Reset Chip.

Consequently, refilling your Aficio cartridges with aftermarket toner can save your business ... may have to replace the smart chip so the printer page count will reset and allow you to print. ... Many toner refill kits ship with the needed smart chip

Replace the chip, or mite have a RFID chip then you need a new cartridge

this printer cartridge has an ID chip. If you want to refill toner cartridge, you will have to by toner and you can buy chip or if you have chip reseter, then reset the chip. It works fine. I use toner from supplier named "Uninet".
P.S. This cartridge is not easy for recycling

Is it a genuine Ricoh Toner or a equivalent refill, if it is the latter then my machine would say empty when actually full. Just keep on using the machine, and have another toner on stand by.
If its a genuine Ricoh toner suggest the machine needs a clean around where the built in (toner) chip is located.

This is an error code for the RFID which is the toner bottle chip on the the toner bottles. I would suggest you check the toner cartridges for any damaged or disconnected chips, have you changed to non ricoh toners as this can sometimes cause a problem. Check each bottle if you have any old empty bottles insert one of these into corresponding colour slot and you can then see which bottle is causing the error. Failing this the board will need to be changed. I have had errors on non ricoh bottles. you can also vac out the slot to clear spilt toner. hope this helps

Possible the chip that reads the toner bottles shorted out.
Try new bottles. If that don't work, the board in the machine that reads them need replacing.

You will need a technician to replace them.

Did you install a brand new cartridge? Or did you refill the old cartridge?
Ricoh has "smart chips" in the toner cartridges, and those tell the printer how much toner is used. If you refill the toner,the smart chip must BE REPLACED, the old chip will remain stuck at "empty".
Sucks, that Ricoh for you. That why that printer was $160 on Woot. LOL.

You could try going into the sp modes and check sp 5052-1 this is for independent toner check if the toner cartridge was checked by the copier as empty and you refilled it the machines check of the chip still senses it empty by turning this off it could reset it for you .. I have had some mixed results sometimes it works only occasional failure.. Hope it helps Good Luck A

Unfortunately the newer ricoh equipment may include a chip like the HP toner. This allows the printer to track the usage so the printer can "intelligently" determine how much toner remains in the bottle. The chip overides all other factors on the remaining toner. Hence, if the chip "thinks" that the toner bottle has little or no toner left, it will give you a false toner low message. Presently, you can only replace the toner with a new bottle.
