This microscope was purchased a a Walgreen as a Christmas present for my son. We opened it for the first time today and the light source is not working. We have installed brand new batteries and changed the light bulb and still no light. Can you help?
It's not uncommon for these low end microscopes to have wiring issues right out of the box. My guess is a faulty contact at the switch or at the socket, as these microscopes work on a very simple electrical circuit.
You can try to disassemble the microscope yourself and see if you can find the disconnected wire, shouldn't be too hard. The other options are to send it back to walgreen's and try to exchange it, have it sent back to directly to vivitar for warranty repairs, or have a technician check it for you.
Mine did not function either.
You can take it back to Walgreen's and get a microscope somewhere else.
I didn't have that option so luckily I have some tech know-how and took apart the light source. I found out it's poorly designed and doesn't even make connection. It's not just mine, it's the way it's designed.
I rigged it so it makes an electric connection. You might not have that knowhow, if not then return it to the store and get a different model.
Wonder how many complaints Vivitar and Walgreen's have had over this?
Obviously not enough, the units are still on the shelves.
