On-screen setup menu wont show

Dear GM,

Our Toshiba dvd recorder (D-R265SE), functions as normall except that the on-screen setup menu will not show. We think this may have to do with our wiring. (It is routed throught the skybox)

Do you know if this is an existing problem and could you plz provide a solution

Thanks

Jim

SOURCE: remote control code

The remote control for your DVR has the capability to control 2 additional DVRs in addition to the one that you currently have. In order for the remote control to work with your DVR, you will need to make certain both of them are talking on the same frequency. If you press the remote control and the front of your unit says DR2, that means that you need to have your remote on DR2 as well so that it can operate the DVR. To set your remote to DR2, you will need to make sure the unit is off then you will need to press and hold down the SETUP button and while you are holding this button down, press the number 2 button. Your remote is now set to DR2.

Good luck...

SOURCE: recorded dvd's won't play on other dvd players Toshiba d-r410

You can play these recordings without finalizing them in the D-R410, but if you want them to play
in other DVD players, they need to be finalized. See pages 28 to 32 in manual. If you want to
finalize the disks you've already made, follow the directions on page 32.

SOURCE: When I turn my Toshiba D-VR4 recorder on, it won't go to DVD

I figured it out with absolutely no help from the manual. To initiate recording, you have to press the timer/set button. After the DVD recorder finishes recording, you have to re-press the timer/set button to take it out of recording mode. I think their book needs to explain that more clearly.

I got a new machine, when I transfer from VHS to DVD-R it records, but will only play on the machine I recorded on, it doesn't load on other DVD players, why is that?

You need to FINALIZE the DVD-R you recorded in that unit for it to be playable on other DVD players. This function should be part of the on-screen menu for your unit. (in Panasonic DVD recorders, it's under DVD MANAGEMENT in the FUNCTIONS menu).

If the disc you recorded is already loaded, but stopped, press SETUP on your remote - an on screen menu should appear.

Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys, select DVD MENU and press ENTER. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys again to select FINALIZE and press ENTER.

A message box will popup 'Finalize disc?' use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select YES then press ENTER. Finalizing should start and may take a while to complete.

Once complete, the disc is now playable on other DVD players. (from page 32 of the owners manual with the heading 'PLAYING THE DISCS IN OTHER DVD PLAYERS')

PROGRESSIVE LIGHT WAS SET BY MISTAKE, AND IT HAS BEEN SET ON AUTO HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE'S ONLY A BLACK SCREEN AND SOUNDS THAT COMES ON.

According to the operating instructions (page 97), Progressive Scan can be cancelled (or turned off) by pressing and holding PAUSE (on the main unit) continuously for 5 - 10 seconds, until the progressive indicator goes out, or turning it off in the setup menu. Your recorder should now be back to normal interlace video output. I recommend that you check your setup menu after this procedure to make sure nothing 'AUTO' is set, that shouldn't be set, and subsequently turning off any function that isn't required.

How do i hook up dvd recorder/vcr to my tv?

Hello.

If its a combined dvd/vcr unit you should be able to record on the dvd input from the vcr with a 3 split cord connected as described below..

VCR -
---------
Video output - yellow.
Audio output - left and right - red & white.

=========================================

DVD
--------
Video input - yellow.
Audio input - left and right - red & white.

=========================================
Or you might have to use a standared RF cable from the
antenna out on the video to the antenna in on the DVD.

=========================================

Additional information....
---------------------------------

Just as you can't copy commercially made video tapes to another VCR due to Macrovision anti-copy encoding, the same applies to making copies to DVD. DVD recorders cannot bypass the anti-copy signal on commercial VHS tapes or DVDs. If a DVD recorder detects the anti-copy encoding on a commercial DVD it will not start the recording and display some sort of message either on screen or on its LED front panel display that it detects the anti-copy code or that it is detecting an unusable signal.
A DVD recorder can be used to copy any homemade videos, such as camcorder videos and videos made from TV shows, and can also copy Laserdiscs, and other non-copyprotected video material. Also, remember that a DVD recorder also has a built-tuner for recording TV programming directly. The tuner can be programmed to record a series of programs on different days and times, much like a VCR. However, if you are recording a non-copy protected DVD to a DVD recorder you can record any of the video content, provided you click on the menu and start the video segments running and you have enough time space on the disc. DVD recorders function like VCRs in that they can record incoming video signals -- however, they do not automatically copy all the contents of the DVD - for instance, you cannot copy the interactive menu functions of a non-copy protected commercial DVD. A DVD recorder creates its own menu functions, it will not duplicate the function menu from a another DVD.

Hope this will help you.

Toshiba DVD recorder problem

Generally, this problem is caused by bad sectors or other problems on the hard drive and can be resolved by going into the setup menu and re-formatting the hard drive. Of course, all recordings on the hard drive will be erased, so spin them off to dvd first. Be sure to have unplugged and replugged the unit immediately prior to going into the setup menu (don't try to record anything). If this doesn't work, no-one will repair this unit locally, as it must be returned to Toshiba's(TACP) depot for repair. Best of luck.
