Need presser foot holder

Please add a comment with the specific model of Janome Schoolmate sewing machine.

Fpr the Janome Schoolmate S-3015, make sure that the needle is fully up and raise the presser foot. Then press the red button on the back of the presser foot holder to have that foot drop off. Set the pressure dial to 3 before attaching the new presser foot. For snap-on feet, align the pin of the presser foot (the horizontal bar in the middle of the foot) under the presser foot holder. Lower the presser foot holder (using the presser foot height lever) until it locks onto the foot.

For the zipper foot, you need to fit the rear pin on the foot into groove at the back of the presser foot holder. Then lower the presser foot holder onto the zipper foot.

For the S-7330, you need to again raise the needle and the presser foot. Press the lever towards (it moves slightly up, not down) the presser foot holder. Then line up the pin on the foot under the presser foot holder and lower the presser foot holder onto the foot so that it locks. Make sure--Does the machine take a short shank presser foot? If so, you can replace it with a short shank zig-zag presser foot. You can probably go to a regular sewing machine repair shop and find a replacement presser foot.

OR you can buy a short shank adapter and a kit of snap-on presser feet that will give you a big variety of different kinds of presser feet, probably including a zipper foot, hemmer foot, 1/4" quilting foot, darning foot, teflon foot, etc....(probably more than she will ever use!) The snap-on kits are available online, try eBay or some of the other sites. They most likely are not Singer brand, but are most likely generic. However, if your granddaughter is just learning, this may be the broadest variety of choices.

First thing you'll need to do is switch the presser foot.

Your machine should have come with a specific button hole foot.

(might have an R on the bottom)

To snap off:

Raise the needle and presser foot.

Press the red button on the back of the foot holder
and the foot will drop.

To snap on:

Place the presser foot so the pin on the foot lies just

under the groove of the foot holder.
Lower the foot holder to lock the foot in place.

Select which buttonhole style you would like to stitch.
This can be done by selecting a mode (buttonholes are 06-08)
and then adjusting to the desired length and width.

After you do this, lower the presser foot and hold the foot pedal down.
The machine will automatically sew the buttonhole and stop when it is finished

All you'll need to do is just cut the thread after.

there are 2 type of presser bar foot clamps
one allows you to snap on the foot--raise & then lower the presser foot holder until the cut out is directly above the pin on the foot,,as you lower the presser foot holder the presser foot will automatically engage when put down on the pin area

the second is a shank & foot combined & there is a screw on the presser bar,,unscrew it some & put the shank up around the screw & retighten the screw

Remove the screw holding the regular presser foot and the presser foot holder and set aside.

Place the take-up lever in the highest position.

Hold the even feed foot with your right hand with your thumb holding the lever of the foot in its highest position. Place the even feed foot on the presser bar and make sure that the lever of the foot rests upon the needle bar thumbscrew. While holding it in place, fasten the foot to the presser bar with the screw.

As the needle bar goes up and down, the lever on the even feed foot should rest on the needle bar needle serew and go up and down as well.

1. Step 1 To prepare the fabric for a centered zipper application, use the standard presser foot to baste the opening of the fabric shut using 5/8 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open. Place the zipper teeth side down on the seam allowance and pin the zipper to the seam allowance only.
   
2. Step 2 Release the standard presser foot from your machine. There may be a button or lever behind the foot that you need to press. Put the standard foot in its holder or someplace where it won’t get lost.
   
3. Step 3 Decide which side of the machine you want to attach the zipper foot to. Zipper feet are asymmetrical, with one side that’s wider than the other. You’ll want to put the narrow side toward the zipper teeth, and the wider side away from the zipper teeth.
   
4. Step 4 Attach the zipper foot to the sewing machine. You may need to line up the bar on the zipper foot with the presser foot holder, then lower the presser foot by lowering the lever. Raise the presser foot and make sure the zipper foot is securely attached.
   
5. Step 5 Place the prepared fabric with the pinned zipper in the sewing machine. Lower the needle into the zipper tape and the seam allowance only, then lower the zipper foot. Stitch the zipper tape to the seam allowance. To sew the other side of the zipper to the seam allowance, remove the zipper foot from the sewing machine and install it on the other side of the presser foot holder.
   
6. Step 6 Topstitch the outside of the fabric to each side of the zipper tape, making sure that the zipper foot is on the appropriate side of the machine for each side. Remove the basting with a seam ripper.

You have to be sure you have the correct foot on the machine and that it is put on correctly. You can't use a regular foot - you need to use the embroidery foot P, which require you to remove the foot holder altogether, and put on the P.
