SOURCE: self timer on nikon d300

on the top of the camera, there is a dial which says QUAL, WB and ISO. Look for button and ring just below this. It should say S, CL, CH, Lv, a clock and Mup. Press the button to release the ring and rotate it to the clock icon to activate self timer

I think the factory repair service is the best choice for this type repair. The El Segundo location worked well for me. You may be able to contact them by phone (number on the Nikon web site) and ask about cost, but if you ship the camera to them they will give you a quote before starting work.

Please check whether the mode dial is on 'Mup' or 'Lv'. If it is, then the camera is on mirror lock-up position (Mup) or LiveView mode (Lv). If any of these is selected, press the mode dial lock and rotate the dial to 'S' mode.

Get the battery checked in a nikon customer care. See if the camera works with same nikon battery of the some other person. If not, the problem might lie with the camera. Visit the customer care for repairing it.

Nikon camera D300 mirror up/down shutter permanently up

Please check whether the mode dial is on 'Mup' or 'Lv'. If it is, then the camera is on mirror lock-up position (Mup) or LiveView mode (Lv). Mup is mirror lock-up and Lv is LiveView. It could be in Lv mode if you can see the image on the LCD, but not through the viewfinder. If it is on Mup mode, both the viewfinder and the LCD will be blank. If any of these is selected, pressing down the mode dial lock, rotate the dial to 'S' mode.

D300 shutter/mirror sound sloppy or not crisp I got my sensor cleaned and after I got my body back I noticed that the shutter and or mirror sound too loud or sloppy. It used to sound quite crisp and I...

As long as it works, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. In the future, learn to clean the sensor yourself. It's not difficult when you have the proper supplies. Just Google the words "how to clean a DSLR sensor" and you will find sites with pictures to teach you.

I can't remove my non-automatic 28mm from my D300

how did it went into the D300 in the first place? Hold the metal part of the lens, press the lens release on teh D300 body. Best to send it to Nikon for a look. They would charge shipping only.

Shutter drag problems

Check to see if somehow the "noise reduction" setting is on. This in effect takes two separate exposures on each shutter release, so it (sometimes) doubles the time the mirror is up. I'm not sure where it is in the menus on a D300.

Also, just a terminology point, but the "shutter" in this camera is a combination of the mirror (what we usually call the shutter) and the electronics which samples the sensor for a limited time. It's a little like the mechanical shutter on a film camera that was behind the mirror....back in the day when they made them from titanium.

The "so what" of this is that even if it sounds like it's not releasing as fast as it used to, the exposure can still be accurate if the electronics are sampling correctly. It's only when moving to slow exposures that the mirror speed/up time makes a difference.
