It
could be that your quark preferences have corrupted, I would go to your
users folder then go into the library folder, then the preferences
folder and then the quark folder within the quark folder there should be
a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move this to the trash (But do
not delete it yet). When you open quark next it will recreate the
preference file and hopefully that will sort it out. If this has
corrected the problem you can then deleted the file in the trash. Please
note that you will have to reset your preferences once you open Quark
again.
Hi Chris, where did you bought the program? Unfortunately there are many double dealers out there, they might have sold the copy of the program to another person, so when you register your license the program recognize it has been used more than once.
If this is not the case, I recommend you contact the Quark support.
Here are the official telephone numbers http://support.quark.com/phone.html
And the official support page http://support.quark.com/
Hope it helps.
Not sure if this is exactly a solution, but usually these crashes are font issues.
You could try deactivating fonts in your Suitcase, or font manager, then opening the files. Quark has a hard time with font conflicts, and usually just crashes without letting you know that was the problem.
This is for Quark on a Mac. What you could do is go to users then which ever user is the active one then library then preferences then quark then QuarkXPress 6.0 (or may say 6.5) in this folder is a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move it to the trash (Do not empty the trash if it does not work you can replace the file back into the preference folder) and then start up Quark, it should rebuild the file.
Please note your preferences will be back to default and you will need to reset them.
Try updating Quark first and reopen the document, if the problem persists, remove the preference file - this may have become corrupt.
Often a Quark crash is related to corrupt fonts, or fonts sharing the same id number as others already on the machine. Do you use a font manager such as Suitcase?
This is only a calibration issue. Your monitor is fine. and the card is fine. I would go to your displays preference and go to calabrate your monitor again. This time just choose the calabration from the default one. Ask someone else if they can see the box you just put on there. Sometimes it helps to have a second set of eyes.
If your video card was not working correctly your problem would be evident in other applications as well, I suspect you have a software problem on the computer, most likely with the OS 10 software and possibly a conflict with the version of Quark you are running.
