Maytag MAV6200AWW Atlantis washer; loud clicking during rinse and then gets louder during spin - sounds like a jackhammer. This started last night and the machine stopped, full of water, and wouldn't turn back on. Then, this morning, it did finish the cycle with the loud noise.

SOURCE: loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps

SOURCE: loud noise during spin cycle

this is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine

SOURCE: my maytag atlantis mav6200aww stops at the rinse

Sounds like a bad timer, which is built into the switch. Replace the timer.

SOURCE: shreiking spin in rinse cycle

Your pump is probably what's causing the noise . Usually the bearing starting to go out , causing the pump to freeze up , begins with this noise .

Testimonial: "Thought it might be a belt rather than the pump."

My maytag mav6200aww washer stops at the rinse or the spin cycle. However, if I wait about 30 min it will work. Possibly a bad timer? Are they difficult to replace?

If the washer is working properly in the wash cycle & not the rinse or spin cycle, I would suspect a defective timer especially with the delay of 30 mins you described. Replace the timer with this part.

Maytag Atlantis screeches @ end of spin cycle,

may be something stuck in the drum or a segment raised on the motor. to test either remove the belt and spin the drum if no noise then the motor is faulty. if a noise then there may be a bra wire between the drum/tub.

Maytag Atlantis shut down during rinse cycle.

Contacted a local repair shop. They told me that if I got it spinning again, the motor was most likely ok. It is protected by a thermal switch that turns it off when it begins to overheat. The smell was to be expected as it was overheating; the difficutly restarting was because it hadn't cooled off enough yet. We have now used it a few times for small loads. Still getting a smell, but the wash cycle is completing ok.
