CRT TV with a white line half way up the screen

My brother-in-law has a CRT TV that has a white line half way up the screen and there in no picture above that white line. The picture is fine below the line but not above it. Any Ideas? I am unsure of the model number I believe it is a Samsung. If needed I can get more info on it. Thanks

Hello,

The white line is result of a Vertical failure. Believe it or not, the whole picture is contained in that one white line, but it is not spread out from top to bottom on the screen.

Usually, a vertical failure is IC or capacitor related. Should be an easy, fairly inexpensive fix for a competent repair shop.

Hope this helps you...

Evenly spaced vertical lines

Hello
Check the smoothing capacitor to video output supply voltage, usually derived from any one winding of the LOT. It will come around 10uF350VDC to 47uF 350VDC range. If this capacitor is faulty, or gone less in capacitance with time, this type of fault will occur. Check the green volour output transistor on the video output card, can be located attached to the neck of the picture tube; for any loose soldering or leakage. OK.

I HAVE A HALF SCREEN. BOTTOM HALF LOOKS GOOD TOP HALF HAS WHITE LINES WITH A BIGGER WHITE LINE SEPARATING THE TWO. IS THE PICTURE TUBE GONE OR IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT I CAN MAKE? TV IS A RCA F25645

This is commonly known as a vertical deflection problem. It cannot be fixed with an adjustment, but requires changing some electronic components. Namely the vertical output IC (integrated circuit) and in addition usually in this model a resistor which may appear to be burned.

White lines on the screen.sounds ok.picture is coming behind white line.

Lines means Screen Drive is overdriving, try adjusting the Screen control on the FBT flyback Transfomer, adjust it down. If that does not Clear out Problem then replace the CRT Board that is connected to Picture Tube.

We have a 27" MTS Stereo color TV. There are white horizontal lines at the top of the screen. We do have a DVR with Direct TV. How do we fix?

U can't.Only horizontal lines on the top parts of the tv screen or the lower parts of the picture screen.Or very light horizontal lines mix in with the tv screen pictures. The "CRT" the picture tube is slowly dying of old age.Quicker than they supose to.The late 90" these problems case show up alot more in standard tvs using CRT tube.Because the CRT and analog design about to be faze out of the market place. The glass molding and those radiation matrials, they used to make those "CRT" picture tube materials, not as good as before.

TV TURNS ON,LINES ACROSS SCREEN THEN TURNS OFF BY ITSELF

sounds like a vertical problem, usually you'll see one white line across the screen, but one I worked on would come on and the bottom half of the picture was gone and there were lines across the top of the screen.

If you know how to solder & can find the vertical output chip then you could try resoldering the pins. If this doesn't fix it then it needs new parts.

Rca 32 inch tv

this is a frame fault
the fact that you can still see the line when the tv is off is because you have been watching with the line and it has burnt into the crt.

time to buy a new tv
