Ice forming very fast on top shelf only

My freezer is 6 years old. The past 6 months ice has been forming very rapidly, on the top shelf. It is still keeping food cold, but seems like it is running more than normal. I checked the seal and it is okay still. I keep defrosting it, but it forms again within a few weeks. Until now, I had always done a defrost once a year and all shelfs had ice on them. Is there something that is broken I can fix? Or a part that is bad? Thank you.

I tried this, but it did not help. I defrosted the freezer again and within minutes of plugging it in, the ice began forming rapidly on the top shelf. Could there be a leak in the metal coils??

You said you checked the seal but one thing you can try to be double sure the seal is tight put a thin layer of vaseline along the entire seal it will fill in any gaps and you can be sure it is sealing completely.

What is the complete model number of the unit? I could be wrong but I would think that if the coils had been leaking for six months the problem is more apt to be not cooling.

Why is the top of freezer frosting up

The door gasket is leaking around the top of the door. Air getting in past the gasket condenses in the freezer causing the ice build-up.

Ice forming at bottom of Daewoo freezer. How do I fix this

Look on the back of the unit for a plastic hose coming out the bottom to a drain pan usually sat on top of the compressor. Bend a straw and push up inside. If it won;t go, there is a blockage, usually ice in the drain. Fully defrost the freezer and blow through the straw until clear.

I have severe ice forming in my freezer.

Hi,

On this unit the shelves are the cooling coils and carry the refrigerant (freon) through the system. They will attract the warm moist air by design, so if you have an air leak in the door or elsewhere it will tend to build up there first.

This being said you need to check something else first. Make sure the other shelves are cold. If they are frosted and cold like normal then you most likely have a door that is not closing all the way or a bad seal. If the lower shelves are not cold then you have a system problem, typically a refrigerant (freon) leak that is causing the top shelf to absorb most of the work and not enough refrigerant to flow to the bottom shelves.

I hope this helps

Red and Orange light staying on on my whirlpool chest freezer

try a total defrost,to clear any internal ice(every 12 months)then switch on and if you have a rapid freeze button leave on for 24 hours to get back to normal operating temp.if you have hard ice around the door seals then you have an air leak which you must sort out(try using a hot cloth to warm seals back into shape.....seals should fit all round, all the time.

Ice build up

You should to check the Whirlpool Gladiator Freezerator's door sealer to make sure all rubber or plastic seal very well to prevent air humidity come in to build up frost fast. Also, you have to defrost completely and wipe with cloth or paper towel to absorb all waters out and let it dry completely to prevent frost build up.

Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.
