Are you useing HE detergent? If not this is your problem! The reason why you need to use HE detergent is because it is made specifically for front load washers. The regular soap is made to be deluted in 20 gallons of water your washer only fills up with about 7. so what it does is it leaves a layor of residue SINKY SINKY. Especially when you leave the door shut all the time. It's like a Bathroom if you do not ventilate it properly it will Sink eventualy. So also please leave the door cracked open.
So to getr ride of the smell Sears sells a product called Afresh or Washer Magic I prefer the Afresh you get 3 tablets and it works great atr removing odors out of your washer. Also if you are on a Well wateer it is safe to use. Or you could use good old bleach with no clothes till the smell goes away

How do I get rid of a mildew odor in the Whirlpool Duet front loader?

bleach and bleach and bleach and bleach!!!!! also i notice more of a smell in washers when people only use liquid detergent and too much of it.
Tip: leave door open after every wash
clean with bleach and hot water regularly once a month
with no clothes on a normal cycle
alternate liquid detergent and powder (yes powder comes HE)
only use HE detergent
try these things and you will find your washer smelling like new again. but tthe trick is BLEACH and a lot of it. once you get a smell it takes a long time to get rid of it.
good luck and let me know if this helps

Strong mildew smell in washer is making cloths & towels smell bad, how do you get rid of the problem?

if you look inside washer there is a rubber rim on the inside around the openning. Look inside and you will find where the stink is coming from. Keep door open when not in use and wipe inside of rubber trim to keep the mildew out.

I use tilex sometimes and do a rinse spin.

What is the sanitation cycle for on Model

Typically "sanitation" cycles require hot water....then they add more heat to the washer during the cycle. It is not 212 degrees, but it is very hot and does kill most germs.

The mildew smell is normally caused by water remaining in the system lines - because the water drain pipe is too high and keeps too much water inside after the system pumps the interior pan. Suggest that you just pour in some bleach after the last load...that should kill all mildew. Please do not overdo it. Only about 1/8th to 1/4 cup is needed to keep the mildew smell under control

Try running the washer with detergent and a box of baking soda--no clothes--and HOT water. Do you have very hard water in your area?

Hi, I have a hoover front loading washing machine and inside the drum seal there was a lot of mildew as I accidentally left some damp tea cloths inside the drum and the machine wasn't used for 2 weeks....

Run your washer with 2 cups of bleach, maximum hot water. After it starts agitating for a minute, stop the washer & let it remain for 2 hours. Then continue the wash.

Clothes have a mildew smell

Hello billpmm,

You are not alone with this problem. Seems that that everyone of the front loader washers exhibit similar characteristics .. the short story is that in order for a washing machine to be a front loader, they need to be water tight .. being water tight, they are also air tight and herein lies the problem.. any water left over from a wash cycle will sit in gaskets , nooks and crannies and eventually develop mold or mildew.. here is a link to product you may find that solves your problem
http://www.smellywasher.com/

or.. you can use the AFRESH tablets sold in Home Depot and other home improvement stores.. in either case.. these products will help rid that musty mold out of your washer..

WHIRLPOOL DUET FRONTLOAD WASHER

I had similar problem, the front door seal can trap small items, socks, handtowels. I didnt figure this out for some months, each load of clothes had a foul, mildew smell, Check door seal for trapped clothes, run intermittent cycles with bleach only, no clothes, be sure to leave door open when not in use to air out , this will reduce smell.

Kenmore washer smells/mildew on rubber

The smell problem is actually because of the softener....its nassssty stuff it coats the interior of the washer and forms a grease like residue. I would use Washer Magic (available at all appliance parts retailers) (only half the container in front loaders) and a hot wash. Also keep spraying the boot with bleach and water soluiton every few hours it will dissappear after awhile. please rate my help
