Canon powershot a470 vertical lines, white picture, blurred

My camera was fine and then completely out of the blue it started taking pictures with vertical lines and all the colours just showed up as white. the images are blurry and so i changed the exposure etc but it stayed the same except on a -2 exposure when the colours were perfect except it still blurred and the lines were still present. I uploaded the pictures onto my mac and it didnt change a thing, it looked the same as it did on the camera. PLEASE help me as I'm meant to be taking a photography GCSE this year!

The image sensor is defective. There is no quick fix other than replacing the image sensor.

I called them today. They were great on the phone. They emailed me a UPS shipping label and told me that there will be about a ten-day turn around to fix it and send it back.

SOURCE: White photos canon A470? i have a canon

I had this problem too, I think it's the shutter problem, it doesn't close
when a picture is taken, therefore, causing the over exposed photo...I've sent it back to canon, still waiting for the reply...

SOURCE: Camera's screen is black, but still takes pictures.

Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, try pressing the DISP button once with the camera turned on.

Perhaps you check the settings. If the camera is on nightshot, or manual, with a long shutter time or wilde open diafragma your pictures are all overblown, or stripes come from lights. Put the camera in automatic. The main dial on the green camera logo, and try again. If this does not work, Please let me know how the settings are on your camera. Success

When am taking photos in auto mode in the sunlight (outdoor)its completely bright, images are not visible but when am taking photos in the room its blurred visble but the horizontal white lines are co

Try setting it to a slower effective ISO rating, this may improve both situations. An ISO of 100 is effectively a slower picture speed, but it increases the pixel density so your pictures should appear better.

If you did not get a manual, I do suggest it because there is a great deal that camera can do that is not always apparent from the buttons you see.

If you need to download one,
http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras
pick your model or family of camera and when that page has loaded you can download a number of documents.

The Problem with the Canon PowerShot A470 Digital Camera Is That, where do I start? I took my mum's camera(without her permission!). And used it at school to take pictures during a Prefect Party I had. Everything went well till the lens jammed(fully extended) I tried switching it on and off, but I still got that error message.

Canon powershot A470 problem when i click photo then white image come? but when i use it night it is normal. but during daylight or with sunlight.. white image appear....and every time i take a picture...

The shutter flex cable inside the lens is broken. Happens to all cameras from Canon A4xx series. At day the images will be overexposed with horizontal lines on it, but it could look better at dark / night. The FLEX has to be replaced. Canon doesn't supply new flex cables for these, but there are some cheap copies on ebay. But as these brake very often, I wouldn't suggest you investing money in this camera, because it will brake again sooner or later.

We keep getting vertical lines appearing on the photographs we take using the canon powershot a470 one day it was fine the next the lines started appearing no settings were adjusted it hasn't been knocked...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
