SOURCE: Roper RT18SKXRD01 refrigerator not cooling

Hi: When this happens it means that there is frost built up in the back of the refrigerator. You are having an issue with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. There is an off chance the refrigerator's freezer is over packed with food and there is no circulation. If you're handy empty the fridge and take a hair dryer to the back wall to melt away the frost from behind. You will have to remove the back metal wall. Look at the heater. It will be at the bottom of the freezer behind the back wall. A glass tube with a wire coil running through it. If the coil is broken, replace it. If not you will be looking at a defrost timer. Sometimes on a circuit board. Searspartsdirect will have the parts and schematics. I hope this helps, Jeff

Freezer works fridge does not

Needs to be completely thawed for 2 days. Or wlse the circulator fan under the freezer panel inside freezer is not working. Take the plastic bottom of freezer out and let thaw. Then plug in fridge and check if the fan is running inside there. Do not poke around inside there or fridge will be punctured and ruined.

The freezer is working just fine but the refrigerator is not cold at all

CHECK THE FREEZER FAN MAKE SURE ITS RUNNING AND IF THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER IS FROSTED UP YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. I ONCE FOUND SOMETHING FELL BEHIND THE BASKET SO THE DOOR DIDNT SHUT ALL THE WAY, CHECK THIS AS WELL

Freezer section is cold, but the refrigerator section is not

set to colder refrigerator ... not colder freezer!! the fridge is reliant upon air migrating into the area from freezer side! if you peg both controls to max , you get a warmer refrigerator , but colder freezer, the control that does not operate the compressor is the setting i mean, it usually says .. for coldest and everyone pegs it and its a common cause for a service call and people cant believe it, if you cant tell which is which set both to middle! evfen at warmest setting the freezer should still make ice and thats the test for freezers state1 can it make ice!

Top Freezer works fine but there is no ice building up in freezer the bottom fridge not cooling properlyThings are not as cold as they should be

Remove the back panel from the freezer to verify no ice behind the freezer panel. Look inside the air vent on the freezer panel for ice buildup. Make sure the freezer control is set to minimum not coldest freezer.. Make sure the freezer fan motor is working.

The freezer fan is running and the freezer is cold, but the fridge is warm

Your defrost systems needs repair.
Set all controls back to mid-range positions.
Open the fresh food door and look up underneath the control panel for a small round hole. About the size of a dime. Insert a flat blade scredriver in the hole and slowly turn clockwise until you hear a click and the compressor shuts off.
Then listen closely for defrosting sounds in the freezer. ie,ice cracking, water dripping, water sizzling.
If you hear these sounds and notice the ice starting to melt, replace the defrost timer in the control panel. If this does not happen replace the defrost thermostat and heater in the freezer.
You will also have to remove the panel from the back wall in the freezer then use a hair dryer to finish thawing the ice in the freezer.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Refridgerater

It could be the defrost thermostat located on the condenser coil on the left side of the fan in the freezer compartment... or else it could be the defrost timer located in the refrigerator behind the dome cover... defrost the freezer and make sure the drain tube is not blocked nor the air passage which blow cold air from freezer to refrigerator compartment below. Water should drip from freezer down hole into tube to an evaporator pan on the top of the compressor near the floor in the back. Make sure the tube is free flowing by pouring some hot water down it before restarting refrigerator. Rarely the defrost heating element shorts, but a simple continuity test will determine if that is o.k. Make sure the refrigerator is uplugged before checking any of these areas... there's 120 volts all about and with water and ice it can cause quite a jolt!
