Did any of the previous answers help? If not, did you check the service manual which you got with the device? If it was not included, you can download one in a PDF document here: Kenmore Coldspot Model 106 Manual

Hi Dillon,
This tapping or knocking to turn on the fridge is usually done due to the fault in the cold control knob ,
This happens If the contacts inside that cold control thermostat have gone bad , and need either cleaning of replacement.
The best idea and quick fix could be to remove the knob and wash it with petrol or a similar liquid and then again connect it after some time, this would possibly remove any material like carbon or dirt which block the knob's contact.
If this does not work , then it's better to replace the cold control knob and things would work fine.
One of my friend's had this same problem and cleaning the knob with liquid like petrol was a solution for him and I hope it would be the same in your case as well.
Hope this helps ...:)

these have to be in correctly to lock back in and allow the unit to function. Try removing the bin again and be sure there isn't any small pieces of ice trapped anywhere. Also make sure there aren't any broken pieces from the bin. Hope this helps. Good luck.
