Panasonic Palmcorder PV-DV203 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Logo
Anonymous Posted on May 28, 2007

Panasonic PV-DV203 Sir, This is three year old camcorder which has seen little use. Will play, record, rewind for only a few seconds, then red power light flashes and unit shuts down. Played with cassette door and it started working again. Today, the same problem has occured. Would greatly appreciate your help with this problem. Thanks.

Thanks. Is there a wiring diagram or service manual available? Took out a few screws and tried to separate the case. Decided to stop before breaking something. Put the screws back in and now the camcorder works again.
Meanwhile, the back-up PV203 I bought on Ebay is acting up. Will only record or playback for a few seconds. Then 2 red flashes from the power light. Lights keep flashing on/off for a minute or so, then power cuts off completely. Any ideas.

I had the same problem and took the camera into a Panasonic certified repair shop. They did a thorough cleaning, then said something was broken in the tape function and it would cost $300+ to fix it. I declined to have it fixed, but the cleaning seems to have done the trick, because it's been working fine ever since (even though the repair guy assured me that was not the problem and I needed to go for the more expensive fix)! I did read online that a good cleaning was a potential fix for the problem, and it seems to have worked! I wasn't able to achieve the same results with my own cleaning cassette, I think it really had to be taken apart and cleaned thoroughly, which could probably be done by any camera repair shop. Good luck!

I had the same probelm with "Will only record or playback for a few seconds. Then 2 red flashes from the power light. Lights keep flashing on/off for a minute or so, then power cuts off completely." on my pv203.  I was able to remove the plastic shield cover that loads the tape and noticed that one of the hinges that is part of the tape ejection was off.  It was throwing off the reel sensor.   My camcorder works fine now.  Hope this helps!

Panasonic Mini Dv 203D - vcr playback in striped screen

I have had this problem. Dont despair! It s a cleaning issue or possibly slight moisture issue. They want you to clean the tape heads. Stick a cotton cue tip in there; i didnt use any denatured alcohol or anything... like we used to do with audio cassette tapes. And/or With a little bit of warm dry air (sitting in the sunshine perhaps) it should correct itself in a day or so. Happened to me (at wrong times of course) maybe three times or so. But never even ruined any tapes that I am aware of. Take heart, its a great little machine when cared for. Except I actually, alas! finally droped mine and now cant get the door open! . . . I was using the PV GS150 primarily by that time, but am still hoping to get the DV203 running again, still pics were really no good on it, but everything else was. All these years worked like a charm, except the few times it zebraed out on me briefly.

Panasonic camcorder software

I have a similar problem but went to panasonic.com website and found something that hopefully will help a lot of you.
Once the webpage loads, click on the "Support" link near the top middle part of page. You will see three tabs and click on the 3rd tab labeled "Support."
Another page loads where you have "Option 1 enter model # or keyword" so type "PV-DV203" in the box next to "option 1." The results will appear and go down to the last entry titled "Drivers & Downloads: Camcorders." Viola, choose the software you need!!
Now my problem is, I have Windows XP so I don't know if I can still download these myself? I too have lost my CD software and don't bother calling for assistance: they will charge you $14.03 for another CD!!

"Tape Not Inserted" on Panasonic PV-DV203 palmcorder

hai, If you are service engineer you can do this problem, Please, check the cassette IN sensing Switch. The place of the Switch is right side of the mechanism, Clean S/w with IPA solution & check. It will be ok or other wise you have replace s/w or mechanism.
