We just bought a new 1/2 hp craftsman garage door opener and installed it a couple of days ago. For the most part, it has been working properly, except that it wouldn't close completely. We adjusted the tension and force knobs as directed in the installation instructions, but it still hovered about 2 inches from the ground.
This was the only problem for a couple of days, but tonight we developed a new issue. The door goes down a few inches, but then goes right back up. We checked the reverse sensors and they show that they are working properly (solid green light, no flashing). We did notice that if we add a little tension by helping pull the chain a bit, the door will continue to go down. Do you know what the cause for either of these problems might be?
Look on the side of the openeer usually lekt looking at it from the rear theese are your travel adjusters one turn = 2" travel normally
Loosen the chain enough
so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit.
With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise
and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain.
Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.
