My sound bar hooked up directly to my tv has no sound

First check to see if the tv and sound bar have a optical connection. If so one optical cable the correct length will connect the sound bar. Otherwise you may nee the red and white RCA connector cable to extend from the tv to the sound bar.
Cannot be more specific without knowing type and model of sound bar and TV or AV system you are using.

Are there any other connector inputs on your soundbar?
If not you may need to purchase a digital to analog converter. Fiio makes one as do many other companies. Easily found on Amazon for about $20.00.
You hook up your tv's RCA audio output to the RCA input on the converter and then the optical cable to the converter then to the soundbar. That's how I would solve this issue.

If the TV has an optical out and the sound bar has an optical in, then all you need to do is get an optical cable and take the rubber safety plugs out of the TV and sound bar and connect the cable. Then go into the audio setup of the TV and select optical so the TV will direct the audio from the speakers to the optical out of the TV.

I assume by using your phone (cable rca to mini jack) the sounbar functions normal. Next time give more info like tv and soundbar make and model no and what connections are available on both components and if its input or output connections.

On the tv make sure the rca cable (tv to soundbar) is plug into the stereo output of the tv and not in a av input. Some tv's have a mini jack out and not rca. Some have a earphone socket which could also be used.

Some tv's only have a digital or optical output port. Iin basic sound work and can be connected with the following combinations .

The cheapest way of connecting your flat screen and soundbar is to use the TV's headphone jack. It's not the best quality, but a lead will cost a couple of Pounds/Dollars and it will do unless you want the sound really loud.

If you want the best quality then the answer is to use the TV's Optical output. This sends a signal in digital form as a series of light pulses. This isn't directly compatible with the stereo input of a sound bar. There's no kind of cable or plug adapter you can buy that converts this just through a piece of wire. So you would buy an Optical to Stereo phono/RCA converter that can translate light pulses into a stereo signal. Here's a link to one from Amazon. It is less than 10 Pounds Sterling

one issue could be power source to the sound bar, another could be that the optical cord is not hooked to the power output source, if you have cable or satelllite then that is your source, not tv

The TIVO system is not a problem. I have it and it works fine. Make sure all the cords are plugged and screwed in tight.

the details you provided were very vague, however from my experience when a device is connected to another device via and audio capable hdmi cable, that device renders it audio output to the device its connected to and normally turn off all other audio outputs beside optical- I would assume there is an option in the blue ray player to turn off hdmi audio, which will in turn activate other audio outputs- you may also look for audio out port on your tv, it is ideal to connect the sound bar directly to the tv set audio out ports. To sum this up,
if you plan to use your player via hdmi cable you need to turn off hdmi audio output on the blue ray player and the plug an audio cable from your blue-ray player to your sound bar
you may also as i said connect your sound bar directly to your tv, the issue is most tv sets now a days do not have an audio out port, if you do then everything you play thru your tv will have audio via sound bar
there are several way to go here but unless your sound bar has hdmi av switching capabilities (im sure not) this is one of the most simple--Good Luck.
